Cordially invited inside, the Bishop explained that he and two Sisters were en route to the next city where they intended to found an orphanage for homeless and unfortunate children. While passing the T ebo mansion, their car had a blowout so they were compelled to stop and get assistance. Upon hearing this, two guests went out to the car to escort the Sisters inside. A second surprise was theirs when Denise Therriault, easily recognizable even in religious garb, stepped out of the car, followed by her companion. Denise acknowledged being Sister Superior of the new orphan- age, a Sisters of Mercy foundation. The Sisters gratefully entered the house, little suspecting the keen joy awaiting them. Shirley, upon seeing Denise, in her usual quick-witted fashion gaily cried, Well, if it isn't our own class treasurer in person! Classmates, get your dues out! Spon- taneously, purses and pockets gave up greenbacks, and, for old times' sake, Sister Denise Marie was asked to accept a donation for the new orphanage. In her grateful response, Denise remarked teasingly that they parted very easily with dues now as compared with fifteen years ago when she had to be a hold up treasurer. Realizing that while it was still early in the evening for a social gathering, but was late for religious, the host assured his Excellency a choice of many extra suites in the mansion, and arranged with Lightning Leclerc to drive the Sisters to the nearest convent in his Super 66. With exclamations of happiness on every side, everyone escorted the Sisters to the car, marvel- ling at the coincidence that the blowout should have occurred at that particular place and at that particular time. Or was it Providence! E f J ,,:, hm, Xu ,vi xx' J 4, 499 ' X If 'L 'LA -. s ' VL ,f Ek , My K, lik 7 xi' ' fe ff f., A 'EF' .vi V V. LATIN CLUB The brighter side of the Latin courses is the Latin Club, whose meetings are eagerly anticipated and thor- oughly enjoyed by the members. Auxilium Latinumf' a national classroom Latin magazine, arrives bi- monthly, furnishing a variety of Latin material: songs, poems, playlets, jokes, tests, puzzles, and biographical sketches of today's famous people. All of this material serves to make applied Latin the source of relaxation and fun during club meetings. In addition, entertaining Latin skits are frequently presented by the individual classes. The club holds membership in the National Association for Promotion of Study of Latin. CAREER DAY Students with Mr. Ted Stearns of Station WTSV. t Y lf-Xu' .ff'1 A GUIDANCE PROJECT An impressive assembly held in the gym opened the first formal Career Day program for St. Mary High school students. Introduced by assembly chairman, joseph Shaw, well-known local radio announcer, Professor L. S. Nara- more of Dartmouth College gave the keynote address, The Importance of Choosing a Career. Group conferences were held with authorities in the following fields: teaching, music, forestry, nursing, automobile, telephone operator, radio, engineering, and oflice work. At the conclusion of the conferences, everyone agreed that the purposes of a career day, namely, to provide students with data regarding various vocations, so that they may make an intelligent selection of a calling, to enable them to compare various occupations in cases of doubt, and to give them the opportunity of meeting leaders in a number of vocations, from whom they may obtain direct inspiration and counsel, had been admirably fulfilled.
