Mary Band Numerous awards have been presented to our band at various tournaments durihg the past years. The first contest, following the war, was a festival held at Menasha in spring, 1946. Over a thousand high school musi- cians from 35 Wisconsin schools took part Since St Mary was host our band did not compete in concert play ing but took first place hon ors in marching in Class A ln the solo and ensemble con tests eight of our band stu dents playing in six numbers won their way to the state tournament at Madison where they took two first places and four seconds In February I947 a huge band composed of 240 students picked from 38 Wisconsin hugh school bands gave a concert at Oshko h under the direction of the noted Dr Frank Simon of Ohio Four students from our band had the honor of representing St Mary at this event The concert was one of the outstanding musical events of the season The band traveled to Antigo Was in May I947 to compete in another tournament First place was captured in both concert play ing and marching Ten of the band students rated high in the solo and ensemble contests and accordingly entered the Madison State Tournament They brought home sveral first place awards and a number of seconds Besides this our band gave delightful concerts every fall and spring Each time the auditorium was filled to ca pacity The band has also made other public appearances on a number of occasion-conven tions parades fairs picnics football basketball and base ball games St Mary Band has always been in demand With the XA director and students of St Mary our band will carry off many laurels in the coming years Y lk 3 K +1 Richard Geiger Jacqueline Geiger John lButchl Geiger Jean Geiger and Mary Geiger the twins, , - . At this game St. Mary's had its lowest shooting percentage of the season but never lost its fighting spirit. On February 8 a return game took place on the Edgewood court floorin Madison.
