lfllF'O1,L8,l2 UH T3 The weak things of the world God hath chosen so that He may confound the strong Three little Portuguese shepherds Iacuita Francisco and Lucia were laughing gaily and chatting together as they tended their sheep when suddenly they were startled by a brilliant flash of light Look ing up they beheld a Lady of incomparable beauty and freshness standing on a bright cloud over a small oak tree Her gown was pure white and flowing about her body was a mantle edged in gold From one of her piously Joined hands hung a white Rosary of pearly beads Smiling tenderly she b ckoned to the children and said Have no fear I will do you no harm I come from Heaven I want you children to come here on the thirteenth of each month until October Then I will tell you who I am You come from heaven' Shall I go there? asked Lucia Yes replied the Lady but you must say the Rosary and say it properly A month later on Iune 13 1917 the three llttle shepherds and about seventy villagers were gathered on the plateau near Fatima when the beaut1ful lady again appeared She urged the children to p rform acts of mortification and to say the Rosary frequently When the Lady came in Iuly she again recommended the recitation of the Rosary For only by this prayer would the war come to an end The children were shown the fires of hell The Lady of Fatima prophesied that if her instructions were carried out many souls would be saved and there would b p ace However if men continued to offend God another and more terrible war would soon comrn n She know that the punishment of the world was at hand In order to prevent this calamity she asked that the world be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart and a Communion in reparation on the first Saturday of each month would be offered If my requests are heard Russia will be converted and there will b peace Otherwise great errors will be spread through the world giving TISS to wars and persecutlons of the Church the good will suffer martyrdom and the Holy Father will be severely persecuted but in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph and an era of peace will be granted to humanity In her August visit she expressed her deslre for the erection of a new Church in her honor More than 30 OOO people had gathered at the plateau on the thirteenth of September Once more the Blessed Virgin came from Heaven and bade the children to say the Rosary so that the war would end On the thirteenth of October the great day appointed by the Queen of Heaven more than 70 OOO had assembled at Fatima The beautiful Lady appeared to the children for the last time 'nore radiant than ever In answer to Lucia s question Who are you and what do you want? the Blessed Virgin replied I am the Lady of the Rosary and I have come to warn people to amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins They must not continue to offend Our Lord They must say the Rosary The children were also privileged with visions of the Holy Family of our Lord and of the Lady as the Mother of Mount Carmel Suddenly the heavy rain that had been falling incessantly ceased The sun emerged from the dark sky and revolved three times within ten mmutes casting oft great shafts of colored l1ght whlch flashed and fell upon sky and earth The Lady then disappeared Thus these little children carried the words of Mary to all the people of Fatima to Portugal and to all the world In like manner may the students of St Mary s raise the banner of Christ and His Holy Mother unfurl it to the passion stricken world that it may find rest and abidlng peace Page 7 U . . . . .
