1 M A R Y M A R G A R E T W I N T E R S Died February 18, 1956 Think of . . . stepping on the shore - and finding it heaven: of clasping a hand - and finding it God's handy of breathing new air - and finding it celestial air, of feeling invigorated - and finding it immortality, of passing from storm and tempest unto an unknown calmg of waking - and finding it Home! February 18, 1956 Dear Mary Margaret, Yesterday you were one of us. You sat with us in the classroom. You helped us with our homework. You worried a little, perhaps, over your own. You snitched a snack between periods. You jitter-bugged during noon hour. You posed reluctantly for a last-minute candid shot for the yearbook. Then you worked late -- a little feverishly, perhaps, in an effort to finish the writing, the pasting, the proof-reading of the book you were never to see through the press -- the book of which you were such an integraland vital part. ' Yes, yesterday you were one of us -- studying, laughing, planning an exciting weekend. But God had other plans for you, about which neither you nor we hadihe least notion. Your death is not the tragedy it seemed at first to be. By it, you have shown all who knew you that you had learned well the lesson of life -- the most im- portant lesson of all -- that one dies as one lives. You lived the life of a modern girl in an exhilarating happy way, working hard when it was time to work, playing hard when it was time to play, but always working and playing according to God's will. And so, as the angel of death descended from heaven to meet you on a Marietta highway he found you prepared to go with him to God. The fact that you had fast- ed from midnight in order to receive Holy Communion this morning has been the one shining comfort to all who mourn your loss -- the comfort that can come only to those whose heavy hearts are lightened by the glowing fire of faith in a loving God Who knows what is best for each of His children. Goodbye, Mary Margaret. May we be as well prepared as you to accept the invitation to heavenly glory when it comes to each one of us. Your classmates
