LEGION OF DECENCY. This organization is part of the national movement to promote patronage of good movies only. Movie-goers are aided by the notices circulated throughout the city by the legion workers. Patricia Tietz, chairman, hands the recent listing of local movies to co-chairman Rita Davis. Marilyn Gazvoda, Betty Tolly and Evelyn Carrico, contact managers, are responsible for obtaining the list of current movies from the theater houses. Notices are sent each week to the various Catholic schools, and movie ratings are filed for future reference. PEP CLUB. Three cheers for the gold and blue! Nancy Dezelan, Barbara Hill and Kathy Mobley lead the Pep Club in backing the fighting Irish from Cathedral High School. At each football and basketball game the pepsters unite in cheers and songs to spur the players on to victory. RED CROSS. Under the direction of Sister Marita members of the American junior Red Cross worked vigorously on a number of projects in accordance with the aims of the Red Cross- for country and for humanity. At Christmas, activities in- cluded the making of Christmas stockings, tray favors, calendar pads, joke books and yuletide decorations for the less fortunate. Gifts were distributed to the patients at Veterans Hospital, child- ren at General Hospital and old folks cared for by the Little Sisters of the Poor. Later in the year an exhibit kit of papers and pictures of U.S. teens and their activities was prepared for better foreign relations among students. On October 1' the student body assembled in the auditorium to hear reports from students who represented St. Mary Academy at various conventions during the summer months. CLUBS i .9 Qt, .47 41 QQ CAMERA CLUB. In the second semester a Camera Club was organized for the purpose of training students to take pictures for school publications. At each meeting the members were expected to contribute some helpful hints to facilitate good picture taking. The test of learning in photography is resultsg each month members of the club displayed their recent efforts and welcomed suggestions from fellow members. In this way the am- ateur photographers learned to recognize errors and improve the quality of their snap- shots. SPANISH CLUB. Members of the Spanish Club, organized this year, named their month- ly publication La Estrellitaf' Articles were written by students in the Spanish class, and members of the club compiled them for the paper. In addition to writing, traditions and customs of Spanish-speaking people were discussed at club meetings with Sister Benira, Moderator. MATH CLUB. Sister jean Gabriel assures her students that the purpose of the Math Club is to show that mathematics can be fun. Each week Sister had new puzzles and games to prove her point. At one meeting these young mathematicians found that there if such a thing as a one-sided surface. See if you can figure out this one: A mathematician confided That a Moebius band is one-sided And you'll get quite a laugh If you cut it in half, For it stays in one piece when divided.
