Mathematics At St, Martin's, as in most other secondary schools, there has been considerable change in the mathe- matics curriculum. For the 1970-71 year, we have offered calculus for the first time. This is an advanced placement course and may earn col- lege credit for those who pass the ad- vanced placement exam with a suf- ficiently high score, Only those stu- dents who have taken Math IV in their junior year will be qualified for the calculus course. The science teaching of the past decades is most inappropriate for the world we live in today and will be even less suitable for the world of tomor- row. We are undergoing a revolution in sciences. A close partnership has been developed betweell science and the economics, social, educational, and N political issues of our time. Today there are few problems in any of these areas that can be discussed to their fullest meaning in the absence of a scientist. Today all over the world and among all peoples there is an awareness that scientific literacy is essential to an understanding of the nature and events of contemporary civilization.
