Heaclmastergs Message Those of you who, in the future, peruse the pages of this copy of the SHIELD, will find that it reflects the activities, moods and styles of the students of this school year 1970-'71, This year has indeed been one of change in attitude and outlook. lt is as if young people have turned the corner from contentiousness and hostility toward authority, and away from the view that the only way to change things is to destroy them. This is hopeful and reassuring in a sense, but we adults must not delude ourselves into thinking that the dis- enchantment of young people with the way we in authority are running things is but a passing fancy. They want a world of honesty, justice, and compassion. They want a world more concerned with the human condition in contrast to success spelled out in terms of the accumulation and proliferation of 'things. ' lt is essential that as adults we, too, turn the corner in our attitudes and thoughts. Wemust come to recognize that the complexity of existing problems are of our own making, And wemust be flexible, honest and intelligent enough to redesign our priorities. At the same time we must provide those educational opportunities for our youth which will enable them to gain the background and determination to manage the problems which are threatening them and to point toward a more helpful future for all mankind, ZMWJHZ 0. ws Sew QW' alfa' if
