The Papacy. . . Truth and wisdom forever. Fountainhead of continuing inspiration and guidance for the faithful. It is true to say that the present Pope is one of the most outstanding Pontiffs to have oc- cupied the throne of Peter in modern times. To his vast learning and erudition is added a degree of sanctity that is striking and impresses even non-Catholics when they are received in audience by him. From the outset of his reign, he was call- ed the Angelic Pastor, and such, both his writings and his speeches show him to be. Pope Pius XII was born Eugenio Pacelli, in Rome, in 1876. Even in his childhood, he exhib- ited his love of the God who had created such a wondrous world. Frail and sickly, Eugenio was only eighteen when he entered the seminary., His health was not goodg but within five years of in- tense study, Eugenio Pacelli, by the grace of God, became Father Pacelli, Little did he realize that forty years later, he would assume the pas- torate of Peter's See, as Pope, on the anniversary of that great day. This is the first chapter in the life of the Greatest Leader of Our Times.
