This factor alone well explains the magical way in which our city has sprung up from a dense forest into a flourishing community in such a short period of time. Together, the Great Northern Paper Company and the Town have established a proud record of cooper- ation and achievements over the past fifty-five years. The Mill has contributed a great deal to the community In fact, the G.N.P.C. is the heart of the industrial life of the towng from the income of its business has come the livelihood of the majority of the people. But, money and machinery alone do not produce paperg the brain and brawn of the working man also played an important part in making ours, one of the leading industrial communities of the State of Maine. This fine spirit of cooperation permeates the town and functions not only when there is common cause - for helping in emergency cases, but in the ordinary everyday business of the community as well. L, Millinocket is the gateway to Mount Katahdin and Baxter Park. The history of the Town would be incomplete without mention of these two picturesque spots. Mr. Katahdin 951242 f A f 7 Zn' is , , f1ff,,,,QF I Jllillinocket Mount Katahdin is the monarch of Maine mountains. It lifts one to a vision of six-hundred-mile circle of primitive aspect looking down from a mile-in-air :Q ,., REVEREND THOMAS B HENDERSON Pastor Wlth smcere hearts we of Sa1nt Martm of Tours School gladly proclaun our new Pastor to be a worthy successor of our late Father Qumn Hls eagerness to mamtaln and encourage the zealous works of h1s predecessor whom we cherlshed has endeared h1m to us all Be happy 1n our m1dst dear Father Henderson f. x,J-I ww 92' 9 in -.gy 1517 -, 1,-.1 L .- -f NG' .5-1 e-. f 21 f ,..- 1 NM f A' W, ag m f :Y H fr 1: .f.- -af .- fff ff.- ,- -. f 'Sf 1 M5521 S1ster Mary of St. V1ator Pr1nc1pa1 . . . . 1 2 Q4 fu. To the late Bishop McCarthy, we owe our indebted- ness for the approval of the erection of a Catholic School in Millinocket. To our beloved Father Quinn, we are forever deeply grateful for producing such a school for his young parishioners. God bless them both. The year 1955 witnessed the opening of our Community Hospital which has a capacity of 31 beds, 10 bassinets, and a standing staff of 6 doctors This fully equipped modern hospital took the place of the Millinocket Gen eral Hospital which was in charge of Dr. Ernest T. Young, and the late Dr Martin Grumley. As far back as 1910 a private hospital was maintained by the late Dr. Charles Bryant. f ' nl' :-' :-'2:it. ' 'L'.
