1953 - 54 NOVEMBER 2 The Armory doors are opened this evening to let in the 'Saints' for basketball practice. 5 A representative from the Department of Education, Mr. Philip Annas, deigns visit our school and gives his appraisal as a Class A High School. 6 Buddy Jacobs goes to the Madigan Hospital at Houlton to undergo an operation. 9 Dial telephone instructors came to give us a lesson in the use of this new instrument. i3 Senior Mothers hold a Food Sale this time. The proceeds surpassed our expectations. i8 Seniors are out on the street all day, soliciting ads for the '54 VICTORIA. l9 Miss Kiely, the town librarian, responds to our invitation and gives us a substantial talk onbooksg inside and out- side. 23 Thanksgiving Social planned by Sophs. 29 Buddy came home yesterday form the hospital, let's sur- prise him with a get-well basket. DECEMBER 3 St. Martins' rocked up their first win of the season. Poor Wytopitlock was the victim. 8 Hail Mary ---- Opening of the Marian Year. The sodalists display a living Rosary in the church, filled to capacity, the impressive ceremony is joined by the pious audience. Hearts were low as St. Martins' bowed to La Grange in their second basketball game. 13 We are real actors, if we may believe the comments heard after the performance of 'Boy of Mine . T4 Winter is here. Our first snow storm. Dig out the wools, kids. i5 St. Martins' pours on the steam as Medway bows 63-34. i8 Christmas vacation. Two solid weeks of rest. 27 We, the 'Flying Martins, were the victories over John Bapst J. V.'s in a tight battle at Bangor. 47-46 JANUARY 4 Back to the grind again. 6 T. Daley and J. MacMullen take exams at the U. of M. anticipating their admission to the Nursing School at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Good Luck, girls. 8 Election of King and Queen----Gloria Friel will personify the queen, Walter McDougall, king. The choice is based on moral qualities rather than natural beauty. ll A new English teacher. Will it mean more homework or less? i4 Marian Year was discussed in a ioint boys' and girls' Sodality meeting, plans were made to observe it as true devouts of Mary, ---also, to prepare material for a Marian Exhibition. I5 St. Martins quintet humbled themselves to Island Falls 60-71 20-21 Mid-Year Exam worries will decide our doom. 26 Honor students were proclaimed at an assembly this P. M., M. Teresa Daley is Valedictorian, J. MacMullen, Salutatorian. FEBRUARY 2 Our Sister Principal goes to Rimouski to witness the profession of St. Martin of Tours' first pupil to become a nun, Edwina Bouchard exchanges her maiden name for that of her Alma Mater. S. M. H. downs Oakfield in a real thriller. A minute stall of the ball proved the winning trick. 60-58 5 Tag Day .... The Senior Fund is increasing its pro- portions. i

SEPTEMBER 7 8 9 ll I2 T4 l6 'I7 2'l 22 24 25 28 30 OCTOB 6 10 12 13 19 20 22 23 26 27 30 The school latch is lifted for the first time since gradua- tion day. Enrollment? Still larger. We're growing slow- ing but surely. Finally, the distinguished title of Seniors is on us. . . just what that means is for us to find out. Business gets under way. Class Officers are: President, G. Jacobs, V-President, C. Osborne, Secretary, J. Boutaugh, Treasurer, M. Dwyer. Blue and White will be our class colors. The Marian Year will inspire our YB theme. No smoking, boys! Father L'Heureux, the Athletic Director, stressed this basketball regulation. Fietter carry out those rules if we wish our victories to out- number our defeats. Cheerleaders: All Juniors! The uniforms are adiusted. And, what a fit! The Sodality held its first meeting this afternoon. Possi- bility of school unifonns was discussed, but not adopted. At last the Jolly Juniors got their class rings. We Sophis- ticated Seniors, know how they feel. Initiation. . . Those poor Freshmen. lt was a hard trial but it proved their good sportsmanship. It ended with our first social where the best costume won a prize. Four students represented S.M.H. at the C.C. D. Conven- tion at Lewiston. Namely: G. Tardyp J. Hines, J. Boutaughp M. Dwyer. 'Boy of Mine is selected as our Senior Class Play. The cast of characters is set. The Knights of Our Lady met to elect officers. They are as follows: G. Tardy, Prefectp J. Hines, Vice-Prefect, G. Jacobs, Secretary, P. LaPlante, Treasurer. The class photographer was here at 8:30 A. M. sharp. He has a lot of transfonnation to do in order to safeguard his good reputation. OFFICERS!!! OFFICERS!!! Those of the Study Circle are as follows: President, G. Frielj Vice-President, C. Osborne, Secretary, J. Boutaughp Treasurer, W. McDougall Mary Jean Yeo came back to graduate from S.M.H. The Senior Class welcomed her heartily. She hasn't changed o bit. Invitations and name cards are selected. Graduation day is drawing closer already. ER A movie on the life of Mary, showed by Father L'Heureux, was very appropriate and appreciated by all. The Senior Mothers' Club sponsor a Harvest Sale with marvelous results. The Yearbook Staff is installed on the iob. Will they out- live it? Columbus Day. A full 24 hours leave is a treat! Good News: A cut on the students' admission at the movies. Our first worries in the form of Report Cards. Some are glad, while others are sad. A Social organized and managed by the Juniors, and they did it superlatively. Patron Drive starts today. Who will be the lucky winner? Interesting Forum this A.M. on the duties of Catholic Youth. Game wardens Foster and Cyr gave us a talk on safety in the woods. -28-29 Teachers Convention. Why don't they have these more often??? We finally agree on the choice of our Yearbook cover. A beautiful immaculate Conception will adorn it. Halloween Social. Costumes provided chills and laughs for all. Prizes were awarded to the most original.

To CJ 12 An open forum on the study of the Bible was conducted by A. McDougall. Brownville Junction High won 67-72. 13 Played Medway High School, our last game of the season. 15 First Tourney play-off for S. M. H. Wytopitlock bows out. 17 Most unpleasant upset of the year. S. M. H. and Mattawamkeag in the finals. 47-50. 19 Played Immaculate Conception H. S. at Portland. Pleasant trip down, but the scores were not so pleasing. 25 Harry Sawyer proved today his ability to lead, The Social was a great success. MARCH 2 Informal pictures are taken this morning for the '54 VICTORIA. 4-56 Tournament time off. 12 Classes '54 and '53 surprised Father Quinn with a Birthday Buffet lunch, commemorating his 76th anniversary. 17 The Jouniors handled an interesting St. Patrick's pro- 19 24 26 APRIL 5 8 9 15 21 24 MAY JUNE 6 12 13 14 grogram this forenoon consisting of skits and riddles concerning the Saints of Ireland. St. Joseph's Feast Day, always gives the Senior Class a chance to express their gratitude to their Ven. Pastor Joseph D. Quinn. A forum to study the whys and fors of pupils behavior in school. Our last YB work goes to press. Noblesse Obligel The honor students start digging out thoughts and ideas for their graduation speeches. Work is distributed among the remaining Seniors to pre- pare Class Night Program. Deadline to send in the finished work for our YB. Easter vacation is welcomed. A long awaited Sociall Enjoy ourselves while we may. Food Sale sponsored by the Senior Mothers' Club tops all other fund raising organization. Thanks for your work. Spectacular outdoor procession in honor of Our Blessed Mother. May she be loved by all. Marian Play 'Joy to the World is presented to the public in the open. The whole school is participating. Their Royal Highness G. Friel and W. McD. are honored tonight at our second annual Coronation Ball. An or- chestra this year! At last our hard work has proved worthwhile, our '54 VICTORIA arrived today. CLASS NIGHT. . . Let's be ourselves and breathe at ease before the solemn graduation day. We enjoy this informal stuff. Senior's Day. We take over the management of the school. This is real fun! Graduation Banquet sponsored by the Senior Mothers' Club. Baccalaureate at the 11 o'cIock Mass, sung by the graduates. These receive Holy Communion in a body. Graduation Excercises at 8:00 P. M. held at the Municipal Auditorium. Our guest speaker is Rev. Fr. Conrad LaPIante a Millinocket boy. All is well that ends well. . . Farewelll Not much sleep last night, . .too eager to take off an 'Our Class Trip'. We're bound for a pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Cape, in Canada. Wish us luck and we'Il pray Our Lady for you all. . .Good-bye.
