In Memoriam We dedicate the 1955 MARKSMAN to the memory of Frank E. Mosher who was for 13 years the re- spected Head of the St. Mark's French Department. Mr. Mosher, along with wife, Hugette a member of the S.M.U. faculty and their son, Bill, an outstand- ing student at St. Mark's lost his life in a tragic auto- mobile accident in August of 1954. p Mr. Mosher was respected by all who knew him, both for-his ability as a teacher and his thoughtful- ness as a councilor. His quiet, kindly manner and his deep insight admirably equipped him for his station in life. Those of us who knew Frank Mosher may judge ourselves fortunate, for a man of his calibre is but rarely seen.

As schoolmasters appraise their graduating classes, they tend to isolate the signal characteristics of a whole group . . . and remember this class for its fine scholar- ship, or that one for its strong leadership, or another for its contribution to sports and activities. ' The Class of 1955 will have special honor, in the faculty mind, for certain personal triumphs of individual boys who, since they came to St. Mark's, have made long advances towards a condition of readiness for adult life, which few years ago seemed doubtful of achievement. A growing insight of their triune obligation . . . to their God, to their fellow men, to themselves . . . has brought to pass this good fruition of latent gifts that now should mature in service, the loftiest function of educated men. For by curious paradox, our only durable or valid happiness will accrue from willing subservience to a body of disciplinesg spiritual, social and intellectual, in that order of precedence. At the head and cornerstone of them all is our common Creator. cui servire est regnare To serve Whom is to reign. R 3.2t..0aoLnih JM THE HEADMASTER
