The plot deals with: Emily and Hezekiah Hoskins ,Aa laughable but lovable old couple who have spent their married life and mostof their cash befriending homeless orphans. When the play opens, four orphans are living with the Hoskins: Bonnie Blue, a girl hitchhiker with a mysterious pastg Brad Rivers, an impecunious college student and Midgle and Micky Starr, a pair of mischievous thirteen-year -old twins. pitfire Bonnie and ot-tempered Bard, sworn enemies, sta e a duel with a coal-shovel and a poker which is a riot! The twins' relatives, tight-gisted Gideon Garvey and raspin Opal Ludlow, plan to separate Midge and Micky and use them for servants. 'faking tlgle ad- vice of Uncle Hez , the twins play all manner of side-splitting tricks, hoping their relatives will think them incorrigible and allow them to remain with the Hoskins. They harass Garveyand O al with everythinlgl from biting fleas to butting billy-goats! They tie roller skates on Lilncle Giddy while e sleeps, and when he wakes, he all but breaks his neck. Riotous situations pile up leaving the audience teetering on the edge of their chairs, And then there is a serious note: The Hoskins' will lose home and Jrchard unless backtaxes are paid before the end of the day. They are unable to borrow che money, but Emily, because of her great devotion and abiding iaith, firmly be- lieves that God will save their home--perhaps 'in some mysterious way. How Emily-'s faith is rewarded--how Bonnie and Brad discover they are in love--howthe mean rel- atives of the twins are put to rout--will hand the audience a series of surprises which involve hilarious comedy and tense, dramatic action. Other characters include snob- bish Loraine Ludlow, spoiled fifteen-year-old Elmer, and Clara Clagg, a gossipy s ins-ter. P Calamity Kids was a tender and appealing comedy--tempered with lively humor and touches of pathos. Page Sponsors: NATIONAL SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES AUTREY BROTHERS 60
