Drill Team The St. Maries Drill Team was organized so that a large number of the high school girls would have an organization in which to participate, and so that entertainment could be pro- vided for basketball games. As a cheering section, the girls have been found to be most helpful and willing to add pep to the games. In the early fall Mr. Ma o and Miss Way worked with the group in learning some of the fundamentals of marching. From this point they worked out routines and formations. The drill te am consists of sixty-four marching girls from all four classes. In addition to these, there are four major- ettes: Kay Alexander, Marjorie Johnston, Bernadine Wil- liams, and Betty Devoeg a drum major, Gary Alexander, and three drummers, Earl Gleason, Edeane Tobias, and Betty Ha es. Y-Their first performance was given on Armistice Da when they participated in the parade with the Drum and Bugle Joi-ps. Then they provided a marching routine during half-time at the Coeur d'Alene-St. Maries football game that afternoon. When basketball season began, the girls performed at the first conference game of the season with Kellogg. Later they provided half-time entertainment at the Coeur d Alene, Priest River, and Bonners Ferry games. The first night of the tour- nament, the group formed a K and a saw with a log moving along its carriage for the Kellogg-St. Maries contest.
