With an eye toward a varsity berth, the J.V. and Freshmen squads gave their all for the glory of St. Luke's. Under the guidance of Mr. Elwood, the Freshmen played a schedule which taught them sportsmanship and team-play. T he Junior Varsity, under Mr. Scafuro, were the understudies of the Varsity, they learned by watching, listening, and finally playing. To both squads goes the appreciation of the student body. W BA EBALL I9 4 -1955 ZLCII6 Champs -Troilus and Cressida Thanks to the excellent coaching of Ange Scafuro, the Lu- cans garnered their third consecutive state championship last season. With the fine record of eighteen wins as against two losses, the boys showed the spirit and conduct which helped win this championship for them. Aided greatly by the return of seniors George Soloman, Richie Santulli, Lenny Babb, and John Detrano, the team racked up victories over such teams as Pompton Lakes, Don Bosco, and St. Borfs. Special com- mendation goes to Richie Santulli and John Detrano who were named to the All-Suburban Team. Santulli led the team with a batting average of .4-46, and Detrano had a 7-0 record. To Dick Rieschl goes the honor of having pitched two no-hit games, one against Holy Trinity and tl1e other at the expense of Oakland Military, the score of which was 17-0.
