Scafuro, C0'3Cll. a heart untainteci 9, The year 1955-1956 will be looked on as the best season in the history of Saint Luke's, not because of their record or great achievements, but be- cause of the many lessons of sportsmanship and manhood which they learned on and off the court. Their teamwork was not sur- passed because each player prayed, learned, and played as a team and the individual was forgotten. The strength of their accomplishments can be ac- claimed to Coach Ange Scafuro who guided the team all through that season. Playing as they have since. their freshman year they produced a well rounded team which made St. Luke's proud to follow and cheer that team to impressive victories. As we look back on the sea- son not one game was lost for lack of school spirit and faith. 4'Fight to the end was the spirit and we hope that the team and fans have impressed in the Lucan body an undying spirit, loyalty, and sportsman- ship to the teams of the future. 1 Henry VI l Frank Caradonrma, Guard B KET13 ALL , .lack Kinney, Forward Charlie King, Guard 67 dare do all that may become a man S C O R E S St. Luke's Opp. 68 Fair Lawn 66 80 Don Bosco Tech. 50 54 Pompton Lakes 61 75 St. Johnis 20 40 Suffern, N. With an eye toward a varsity berth, the J.V. and Freshmen squads gave their all for the glory of St. Luke's. Under the guidance of Mr. Elwood, the Freshmen played a schedule which taught them sportsmanship and team-play. T he Junior Varsity, under Mr. Scafuro, were the understudies of the Varsity, they learned by watching, listening, and finally playing. To both squads goes the appreciation of the student body. W BA EBALL I9 4 -1955 ZLCII6 Champs -Troilus and Cressida Thanks to the excellent coaching of Ange Scafuro, the Lu- cans garnered their third consecutive state championship last season. With the fine record of eighteen wins as against two losses, the boys showed the spirit and conduct which helped win this championship for them. Aided greatly by the return of seniors George Soloman, Richie Santulli, Lenny Babb, and John Detrano, the team racked up victories over such teams as Pompton Lakes, Don Bosco, and St. Borfs. Special com- mendation goes to Richie Santulli and John Detrano who were named to the All-Suburban Team. Santulli led the team with a batting average of .4-46, and Detrano had a 7-0 record. To Dick Rieschl goes the honor of having pitched two no-hit games, one against Holy Trinity and tl1e other at the expense of Oakland Military, the score of which was 17-0. It was through the all- around efforts of the whole team working together that such honor and fame was brought to St. Luke's. if .155-i - 1 ' - r , , -si 1 , if , . ff 1 , ,- , - V ' T Y' X: T , L' if ',-- ,f ' .fi . , X - - 2ss ,'s, If xg... , -, , - f.,Xt..,, Vi, ., X 4' ssasa ' s 'st.
