For a good many years +he church was wi+hou+ a residen+ pas+or. Fa+her George Corrigan +oll0wed +he Franciscan Fa+hers in caring +or S+. Luke's and in I887 he le++ S+. Luke's +0 +0rm a parish a+ Wes+wo0d, +he +irs+ branch +0 spring +r0m +he pioneer church. Fa+her Nevins replaced Fa+her Corrigan and remained +0r +wo years. He +hen realized +he need +or a parish and church in Ridgewood and he s+ar+ed +he Church 0+ Cur Lady 0+ Moun+ Carmel. He became residen+ pas+or a+ Ridgewood and S+. Luke's was again a mission parish being a++ended +0 by Fa+her Nevins. From I905 wi+h +he appoin+men+ 0+ +he Reverend P. F. Pindar as +irs+ pas+or. +he real developmen+ 0+ +he parish was rapid. ln Sepfember l92O Fa+her Pindar es+ablished +he +irs+ Ii++le school a+ Saddle River. The +0llowing year he erec+ed a small +rame building near +he Church. As +he enrollmen+ increased he added several addi+ions +0 +he original s+ruc+ure. ln I937 he saw his +0ndes+ dreams realized when +he beau+i+ul, modern building +0r +he grammar and'high schools was opened. ln +he years 0+ i+s exis+ence S+. Luke's School has made a splendid con+ribu+i0n +0 +he parish in +he excellen+ educa+ion impar+ed by +he Sis+ers 0+ S+. Joseph 0+ Newark. l+s pupils have won many honors and +he sch0las+ic repu+a+ion 0+ +he school is 0+ +he highes+. On January 28. l938, a s+riking blow was deal+ +he parish in +he un+imely dea+h 0+ Fa+her Pindar. A++er serving +hir+y-+hree years as shepherd 0+ +he +l0ck 0+ S+. Luke's he was called +0 his heavenly reward. He is missed grea+ly bu+ he will be cherished +0rever in +he hear+s 0+ his parishioners. On +he occasion 0+ Fa+her Pindar's dea+h, +he Reverend E. F. Kirk, pas+or 0+ Our Lady 0+ M0un+ Carmel in Ridgewood, was named adminis+ra+or 0+ +he parish. On January 27. I939 +he Chancery O++ice 0+ +he Archdiocese 0+ Newark announced +he +orma+i0n 0+ a new parish which was +0 include Ramsey and Upper Saddle River and +0 be known as S+. Paul's Church. A+ presen+ S+. l.uke's comprises +he +owns 0+ Allendale, H0-Ho-Kus. Saddle River, and Waldwick. On +he same day, +he Reverend Pa+rick J. Maloney, assis+an+ pas+or 0+ S+. Aedan's Church, Jersey Ci+y, was named pas+or 0+ S+. Luke's. On +he coming 0+ Fa+her Maloney many changes have +aken place. The in+eri0r 0+ +he church has been redecora+ed. Two side al+ars were ins+alled and +he main al+ar changed in+o a li+urgical al+ar. A large pain+ing 0+ +he Cruci+ixion hangs in back 0+ +he main al+ar. New ligh+ing +ix+ures, c0n+essional, bap+ismal +on+, and al+ar rail were procured. A+ presen+ +hree Masses are said a+ S+. Luke's: 7:30. 9:00 and I I:I5. One mass is said a+ +he mission chapel 0+ +he Guardian Angel, Allendale. Maior socie+ies in connec+ion wi+h +he church and which are ac+ive are: The Holy Name Socie+y, The Rosary Con+ra+erni+y, Children 0+ Mary Sodali+y, Holy Angels' Socie+y, S+. Aloysius' Sodali+y, and The Guardian Angels' Guild. ln +he pas+ seven+y-+ive years S+. Luke's has grown in+o one 0+ +he larges+ cen+ers 0+ Ca+h0lici+y in +his sec+i0n 0+ Bergen Coun+y.
