Lowney Although Father Lowney has not been directly connected with our school activities, still his spirit of helpfulness has been felt by the senior 4-lass. The boys are especially gratelul for Father's interest in starting ath- letics at St. Luke's and the girls have felt his influence through the Sodality. Though we are leaving St. Luke's, we shall always remember Father Lowney's cheerful smile and willing help. !Q,QZZC'l.dZll.0l1 The seniors cannot fully express their appreciation of Father Purcell's untiring efforts during the past year to aid us. The statue of Our Blessed Mother was enshrined in white silk draperies, ferns, and chrysanthemums, In the pres- sence of the sodalists, our prefect, Dorothy Dorman, crowned our Blessed Mother as Queen of Peace. The sodalists then renewed their act of consecration to Mary and petitioned her for the peace of the world. The ceremony ended with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The crowning of Our Lady as Queen of Peace on December 8 was particularly appropriate, for the Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast of the United States. The Coronation was likewise a part of the sodality program of study and activities for national defense, .Y Our Sodalists bl' Q I Q , s... , Coronation 0 Our L :dy Sfllfllflf-J Council We Wield the Gavel This year brought an entirely new sodality setup At the beginning ot' the year the sodalists grouped themselx es into six committees under which they wished to work A chairman was chosen for each of the committees These chairmen with the olllcers formed the C'entral Council which planned the subjects to be discussed at the regular meetings and directed the actix ities of the sodality under the guidance of the Director. We Follow Mother Seton In Catholic Action With the cause ot' Mother Seton's canonization nearing realization, the Mother Seton Club, redoubled its efforts to spread dexotion to their patroness and to cultivate a spirit of C'hrist-like charity and zeal Among their actix ities members contributed to the support of Father llenry's colored missions, and to liosalia Foundling All collected eggs at Easter for the Home for the Aged. Without the cooperation of all our classmates who solicited patrons and advertising, it could never have become a reality, Many others too have contri- buted to the writing, and the typing, ln many ways the book has been truly a class project. 722 ,fucidn Editor Thomas Mastic Business Manager James Finnerty Art Editors Bernard Van Balen George Badanich Activities Editor Mary Margaret McCaffrey Business Stal? As the newly organized student government got under way, a student patrol was formed to keep order on the campus during change of classes. Keep to the right, Single file, and similar admonitions from patrol members soon improved the order on the campus, Student council members attended the Communion break- fast held at the Fort Pitt Hotel to launch the campaign against indecent literature sponsored by the Federation, Posters for this campaign were submitted by George Badanich and Ber- nard Yan Balen. The Student Council found much pleasure in entertaining the debating teams who spoke at St. Luke High under the direction of the Federation, and in contributing to Vocation Elgek by bringing Sister Consuela Marie to address the student o y.
