We chose Ed Enns for our student council representative. Barbara Baker and Mary Alice Snow were appointed by our class sponsors to be our Green and White reporters. Our sponsors for that year were: Mrs. Hubbard, Miss Merritt, Mrs. Sullivan, Miss Thomas and Mr. Fairman, who was later replaced by Mr. Trickey. The next year we elected Tommy Cheatham as the president of the eighth grade and the other officers were Sue Humphrys, vice-presidentg Barbara Baker, secretary, and Ed Enns as treasurer. The Green and White reporters and the student council representative were elected to serve again that year. For Stunt Night we entered a skit, Krazy Kuiz and received third prize, not aware of the fact that we had begun a record yet to be equaled. As freshmen in High School, we had two persons on the student council: Sue Humphrys and Norman Platts. Also, we had four reporters on the Green and White staff. Mrs. Priester was our sponsor and we give her our thanks for all she did for us. We received first place honors for our stunt, and our class picnic was a great success. The officers elected for our sophomore year were: Lowell James, presidentg Bob Hutch- inson, vice-president: Joyce North. secretaryg and Warren Alford, treasurer. We were privileged to have Donna Lee Bowman and Glenn Lee Harned represent our class on the cheerleading squad. Sue Humphrys and Norman Platts served as our student council repre- sentatives. That year the school introduced a May Day Festival which was to become an annual event. For this occasion our own Betty Jo Sloan was crowned queen. The sophomore- senior picnic proved very successful with blue skies and fried chicken. Working as waiters and waitresses' for the J unior-Senior banquet and decorating for the Baccalaureate sermon finished our services for the year. We, as juniors. elected for our president, Warren Alfordg vice-president, Willie Kathryn Thompsong secretary, Joyce Northg and treasurer, Glenn Hamed. Our student council representatives were June Saine and Glenn Harned. Mr. Eyler was our class sponsor and also the director for our junior play. We were in charge of Stunt Night that year and had to present it two nights to accommodate the crowds. June Saine was our Stunt Night announcer. Mary Hughes presented the feature contest winners of which we had Pat Harrison as Best Dressed Girl and Bob Deitz as Wittiest Boy. Our entire class was well represented in various organizations throughout the school. We gave the seniors a gay time at the annual banquet and prom which was held at the Community Center and Armory, respectively. The honor and dignity of being a senior was finally bestowed upon us. To lead us through our climactic year, we chose Warren Alford as president, Phillips Rowe as vice- president, Joyce North as secretary, Bob Crebbin as treasurer, and Sue Humphrys as parlia- mentarian. We had three representatives on the student council who were: Glenn Harned, Willie Kathryn' Thompson, and Phillips Rowe. For the heads of the annual staff we elected June Saine as editor-in-chief and Jule Wilcox as business manager. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Scharfschwerdt, who worked with the annual staff: Mrs. Kuhn, who advised us in our class matters: and Mrs. Ashby, who directed our senior play. For our senior play, we chose to present, The Perfect Idiot by Atkinson. Our senior stunt won first place honors and we completed our record with five straight wins. Willie Kathryn Thompson and Bob Deitz were presented as Miss Fort Pierce High and Most Popular Boy during the Stunt Night program. We are looking forward to Skip Day, the Sophomore-Senior picnic, the Junior Prom and Banquet and finally the great day when we receive our diplomas and graduate from Saint Lucie County High. . When a group of old friends get together, there is always a discussion of old times, always the remembrance of funny incidents and triumphs shared. These are just a few of those memories which will probably bring scores of other to your mind. REMEMBER WHEN: The boy scout cabin was the scene of the Junior Keen Teen dances every Friday night whlere, except for a few brave couples, the boys sat on one side of the room and girls on the ot er. Jim Baggett was known as the Late Mr. Baggett because he had to milk the cow every morning and it caused him to be late. The science class, under Mr. Trickey, was always discussing football plays. The Eagles won every football game and we declared that the Eagles would duplicate that record when we were seniors. They nearly did. too! Only seniors sat on the Senior Steps! ' Nearly everyone went to the Sunrise Theatre on Saturday afteroon to see who was there and whom they were with. Slam books came into style and much time was spent in keeping up with what was written in them and in trying to keep them out of the teachers' sight. - V -.,-AA-.-lll- lI NORMAN RAY EZELL Norman Quiet is he and pleasant all the dayg being modest and retiring in his way. All action took place in a rest sanitarium. Sometimes the cast felt as though they should actually be in an asylumafter practice had lasted until after eleven and there was plenty of homework yet to be done. The six foreign accents called for in the play also caused plenty of confusion until they were finally mastered. We had fun arguing, planning, decorating and attending the J unior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Old fishing corks, candles, bouganvillea, palms, pink and blue clouds and silver stars overhead, and a beach scene carried out the South Pacific theme. For the Prom the Armory was decorated to represent a jungle by the use of Australian pines. Little wooden animals and balloons were hanging from the fish nets which were used for the overhead decoration. Higgs served as a second CommunityyCenter. Traffic jams occurred when people circling to see who was there met others going in the opposite direction for the same purpose. There was a mystery centered about the boy who jumped out of the window of Mr. Eyler's homeroom during guidance period. We united quite well in keeping his identity hidden. All the seniors were in the Auditorium for a while. When one homeroom left, there were still enough people for someone to start the daily dash by shouting, The bell's rung! For the fifth time our stunt won a prize-another first! Two Defective Mysteries showed the way different members of a family reacted to the screams of terror and plead- ings of the victims in a radio murder. Most of us decided it was terrible to have to leave just when we reached the best part of school, but then we realized we would not be forgotten soon because of the things we were leaving behind: Our Stunt Night Record, our fame for being original, and our pride in hav- ing wonderful publicity for our dances and plays. And we'll always remember when all of these things, and many others too, made up our life as a part of the Class of '51. - 1 - -le -J :ie -. a i.-.4.-..s-an .. A. STU T NIGHT The Junior Class present- ed the annual Stunt Night program in January. For several months the dif- ferent classes and clubs had been working on their stunts. The Glee Club members' stunt, A Very Boring Even- ing seems not to be that. The men from Mars and their flying saucers seem to have scared some of them nearly to death. The High and Mighty Sen- iors took first place with Two Defective Mysteries. The Seventh grade and their Casey at the Bat won sec- ond honors. Here you can see Mighty Casey striking out. On Friday night the fea- ture contest winners were presented. Mr. Bryan crowned Miss F.P.H. and Most Popular Boy. Jimmy Don Ricky Norman Glenn BAD HALF-TIME SHOW In their colorful green and gold uniforms, our BAND is easily and welcomingly spotted. They were on hand at the football games and their drills were something to behold. Never did we know just what to expect, but Major and the band always made us proud of them. This year the band was fortunate enough to attend every football game, even the long trip to Gainesville. Due to crowded conditions the mem- bers had to stay in Eustis but managed to get in a visit to Silver Springs. During the winter the band played several Sun- day afternoon concerts. The ustanding room only sign was always out, for our band draws people from many miles around to its concerts. Tom Neff, Q'masterg B, Baker, Sec.g Major O'Neal, Direc- tor P. Marcoux, Second Lieutenantg P. Platts, First Lieu- tenantg N. Platts, Captain. Not pictured are: M. Onley and M Wilson, Librarians. Another first this year was our corps of twirl- ers. They have proved themselves to be a welcome addition, especially during parades. Now, as the annual goes to press the sound of drum cadences sounds over the campus. Thursday nights also we find them practicing. We know contest is not far off. Under the capable direction of Major and Doc we are sure they will bring another first division rating back to us. Yes, every time you see the green and gold of a band you can proudly say, There goes THE BAND, the Fort Pierce High School Band. BASSOONS-Dot Halune, C. It. has won a place of respect among the student body, the faculty and the people of the community. Last year these boys did as their projects, 36 acres of crops, 4-22 head of livestock and 4-126 head of poultry and 5252 cuttings with a net income of 8534-,309.32, all of which was' done outside of school time. Because of the outstanding work of these boys last year the Fort Pierce Chapter was awarded an attractive certificate for winning second place in the district--this year they are striving for first place in the state. The FFA Chapter provides an excel- lent opportunity in leadership training. y The Chapter officers display this lead- ership while conducting the more than five chapter meetings held each month. The membership is divided into two equal groups of eighth grade boys and one high school group of high school FFA members. Each group has its own officers. These boys own their own livestock herd of 10 cattle, three of which are registered, they farm 15 acres in crops, manage 625 acres of pasture with much of the pasture land in slash pine. i V Athanas, his sponsor and his prize'calf. 80 A JUNIOR HIGH FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA First row: H. Homecoming each year draws more and more stu- dents and alumni to the an- nual Thanksgiving game be- tween Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. No classic is com- plete without a funeral ser- vice'for the dear departed Vero Indian. As you see here the members of the football team are the pall- bearers. Notice the mourn- ful expressions on the faces of the students. 21-O! We were overjoyed to be able to carry the goal posts victoriously back to Ft. Pierce. Again we had met the brave Vero Indian and again' he had been sent to the happy-hunting ground. Before the great game be- gan, our homecoming Queen Pat Thompson, her student attendant Nancy Norton and alumna attendant Jean Park together with co-captains Deitz and Taylor and two officials proceeded to the center of the field to meet the Vero Queen, captain and officials. Excitement was definitely supreme. BASKETBALL First row: B. Crebbin, F. Strunk, M. McMullian, D. Secrest, C. King. Second row: Manager D. Talman, C. Hantman, H. Crowley, L. Ray, B. Deitz, J. Bag- gett, Coach Fred Huff. This year the Fighting Ea- gle B squad under the coaching of Coach Reid Moseley, had a very success- ful season. They won all of their games except two, which is a very good record. These boys are the Fighting Eagles of tomorrow, they de- serve a lot of credit for staying out and playing as hard as they did. This year there was no tournament for the B squad so the boys went down and watched the varsity play. The B team is getting the experience they need to play on the varsity. , .A -. .....,,nt.f V This year the Fighting Eagle basketeers got off to a Hy- ing start hy winning their first five games before drop-- ping' one. As the season came to an end, it proved to be a very successful one due to the old Eagle spirit, and the fine coaching of Coach Fred Huff. For the third straight year, all games were played away from home, due to the lack of a gymnasium in Fort Pierce. Second row: R. Rogers, E. Kaplan, C. Kite, C. Jaap, H. Carrera, F. Kendall, C. King, Coach Earl Stokes. During the summer of 1950, the FIGHTING EAGLES under the coaching of Earl Stokes won the State Class B Baseball Championship held in Avon Park, June 13-16. The Eagles' first game in the tournament was a 5 to 4- win over Fletcher High of Jacksonville. The second one was a 12 to 2 decision over Avon Park, the host team, and the third and final game a 11 to 4 win over Deland. This year the Fighting Eagles have a very good team, most of which are retuming veterans from last year's State Championship team. Under the coaching of Coach Earl Stokes, the Eagles have worked long and hard to live up to the standards set by Eagle teams of the past. This year the State Class B tournament is going to be held in Fort Pierce, where some of the best teams in Florida will compete for the State Championship which the Eagles now hold. Win or lose, we know that the Eagles will always he out there with the old spirit to win. Adil-3215-gf E iiif - AY?
