Cleveland provided the answer with a first quarter assault from which the Dauphins never recovered. The first Orange score came when the game was only two minutes and ten seconds old. lt was the leak in the dike that led the Way to the torrent of scoring which drowned all hope of a Ir. Bill victory. After the Backermen had spotted the Dutchmen their twenty-point lead Bob Brangle got in front of Seventy-four a McDonnell pass on his own 25 and sped the remaining 75 yards for a score Ed Gaus added the extra point to complete the Backer scoring for the afternoon. The Backer attack was hampered by a recur- rence of a shoulder injury suffered by Gaus in the C. B. C. fray as he missed most of the first half and his later effectiveness was re- duced. Despite several getaways for long gains by Gaus Brangle and Bill Murphy the Ir. Bills were unable to get a sustained drive going all afternoon all attempts being well checked by the monstrous Cleveland line. G. Friedrichs's crew was sufficient to force a tie in the final Prep League standings. The Blue opened defense of their Prep title against DeAndreis with some misgivings stem- ming from knowledge of what George Hasser can do with a ball, five men, and a gym. He couldn't do quite enough in either of his meet- ings with the speed-crazy Dauphins however, as they raced off with 48-30 and 50-44 victories. All C. B. C. had to offer against the Backer- men was a clowning cheerleader, as they lost 46-39 and 67-56. St. Mary's, after dropping an easy 52-38 game earlier, did all their clowning at half-time and saved some serious moments for the game in their second meeting with the Blue. The conditions were serious, too, before the Dauphins got down to business enough to stagger to the dressing room with a 46 44 win Central Catholic probably wished that there were no bridges over the Mississippi after the lr Bills bade them fond farewell from the Prep League with 60 36 and 50 39 pastings Ezohfg All State A l Distr ct All Pr a Klostermeyer sc res aga rst All S tate All District All Prep Fassler B , ., . t t - , l- ' 1 , - et o it - , X - ' ' , - i eaurriont.
