.N if Q The double burden of ministering to the needs of the parish and maintaining the discipline of St. Louis College was stubbornly borne by Father Neil and his assistants until the end of the 1826-1827 session, when it was decided to close the doors of the institution. Then, on the second day of November, 1829, it was reopened by the Jesuits in a new building fpictured abovel which they built on Washington Avenue at Ninth Street-- in the opinion of the inhabitants there was no more suitable spot for a college. Father Peter Verhaegan, S.J., formally welcomed the students--one hundred and fifty strong, lads whose names were to become rich in the historical lore of the city and the West. 6.2 PETER VERHAEGAN, SJ. But the Very Reverend Paul C. Reinert, S.J., pictured here by the fabulous Pius XII Memorial library, the twenty-ninth president and presently in his sixteenth year of office, is possessed of the same concern for higher learning and is restless to move the University ahead in rapport with its great tradition.
