REV. JOSEPH PRIESTLEY, S.M. Department Chairman Religion lll, IV Counselor Sodality Director RELLGLO St. Louis exists not as an education factory, mass producing mathematicians, biologists, chemists, and social scientists. Nor can St. Louis be said to exist with an expressed purpose of promoting cultural values indispensable to this highly social world of ours. True, St. Louis does provide a solid founda- tion for intellectual advancement, and artistic ap- preciation is certainly not ignored. But these are merely adiuncts to the real purpose of a Catholic high school: instruction in the precepts of Our Faith. The Religion Department of St. Louis accom- plishes this aim most ably. In the Constitution of the Society of Mary, there is a phrase stating, O JOHN ODONNELL SM an nav Flumcis NAKAGAWA sm Re,,g,o,, HI ,V I C Religion lll Counselor C C D Moderator And here we have an orlglnal Da Vinci note the smooth flow mg strokes the gentle combination of color the P T G Moderator if' LEONARD ROSA 9 C Religion Ill English I Literature l Speech Club Moderator

Department religious instruction is the first, the most neces- sary, the most practical, and, from every point of view, the most useful ot all the branches of teaching . . . No other branch merits and re- quires on the part of the teacher a more constant study and a more careful preparation. The Marianists here at St. Louis realize this and endeavor to do their utmost to attain this end. All knowledge is imparted with the underly- ing principles of moral right attached. They in- still a religious attitude and stimulate religious devotion. Thus, everything we are taught can be appraised in the proper light, with the proper perspective. And a man of strong moral char- acter and a deep religious spirit is formed. N fx' ,KH v X x VJ FR. JOSEPH NAPIERKOWSKI, S.M. TO-D Religion 1, In Counselor Sophomore Sodality Moderator Q BRO.
