'-'T 'T T Q U8 The finer points of speaking . . . The Association of Speech Activities strives for the development of self-confidence and self-expression by means ot public speaking. Many areas of speech are open to students who are interested in improving their speaking ability, debate, dramatic, humorous and oral interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, original oratory and panel discussion. Competing with other schools builds up competitive and team spirit as well as valuable experience for the future. The accomplishments ot the ASA are numerous. Taking part in the Chaminade Tourney, St. Louis won four trophies. Placing Hrst were: Fred Luning- Oratorical Interpretation, Bob Yamachika-Original Oratoryg and Michael Laabs-Humorous Interpretation. The other winner was Michael Sugimura who placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking. St. Louis also took part in the various debate tournaments held throughout the school year. In the U.H. Speech Festival, several members of the ASA merited a superior rat- ing. The rewards of the ASA are unbounding. Because of the training received in this organization, many students traveled to Los Angeles, Canada and many other oversea cities, not to mention the neighboring Hawaiian islands.
