IAYVEE CAGERS il ' Mentor James long With only one veteran returning from last year's hustling squad, Coach James Long took the gigantic task of producing a top-flight cage team to face a tough season against the other ll teams of the Junior Varsity League. Hours of practice for the team and sleepless nights for the coach, however, produced a terrific team that met and overcame opponent teams with such enthusiasm and cooperation that would be found in any championship team. Though lacking in experience this hard driving group never knew the word quit. Deadly shot like John Kong Kee and fast breaker Gene Celebrado led the team through the season with the shining example of the Crusader JVer. lt was fourth place in the end but the team exhibited the desire and potential that will eventually pay off in every way. -.--1 Head Coach Okamura VARSITY BASEB LL ill With the entire infield, a potentially great mound staff, and some proven sluggers returning from last year's championship team, Coach Herbert Okamura's charges entered the ILH baseball season with high hopes that diamond victory might lead to a second straight diamond championship. The infield combination of Benny Domingo, Mousey Murakami, Don Koike, and Eddie Hayashi returned for another fine season at the plate and in the field. Although at times a bit faulty on defense, they more than made up for it with their hustle and effort The inexperienced battery was headed by senior catcher Jim Anderson and gunior hurler Bob Herodias Fireballer Herodias carried the brunt of the pitching chores and vied for all star honors Assistant backstops Dennis Takeshita and Dan Ukishima and pitchers Stan Cabico Roy Ta mashiro and Dave Silva also played well whenever the opportunity presented itself The outfield resembled the mound corps in th absence of experience but the presence of great potential Mike Yanagida as fine a local prep slugger as any spearheaded the flychasers with his booming bat The rest of the outfield cast included three year varsity player Bob Matsu moto Leonard Fellez Ben Ronquulluo and Wayne Nakamoto Lofty standings in the league are easily taken for granted by the Crusader faithful But its sweat and toll teamwork and determination and maybe a little luck that keep the Red n Blue up there Just ask the boys they ll tell you Team sparkplugs X' was s '-lf Pr' s 4444 Q. 40 Front Row L to R Ronald Lee manager Bob Matsumoto Wayne Murakami James Anderson Eddie Hayashi Benny Domingo Dave Silva Victor Menezes manager 2nd Row Stan Cabico Dennis Takeshita Don Koike Mike Yanagida Roy Tamashsro Noel Gray 3rd Row Bob Herodias Wayne Nakamoto Len Fellez Ben Ronquillno Dan Ulushima . .
