For the Juniors, it will not be too great a jump, not too great a change. The Brothers will seem the same, the Underclassmen will seem the same. Amid the pungent odor of fresh sawdust and machine oil, they develop workmanship and habits of careful planning. Between sawing and sanding, the boys also tackle theoretical problems, such as careful discrimination in the selection and use of wood. The Crusader casaba team of T953 captured the Honolulu lnterscholastic Basketball Title in one of the year's most furiously waged campaigns. Led by Lucius Jenkins, Ben Daoang, Vernon Oshima, David Yoro, Herbert Scanlan, and the Vicens broth- ers, Ralph and Mercer, Coach Walter Wong's cagers captured the championship with a record of htteen vvins and a single loss. They journeyed to Hilo tor the traditional Shrine Tourna- ment held to determine the Territorial king. After a close battle the RedanBlue hoopsters were nosed out in the final contest ot the tourney. 'g'w0-gl'A-f -5-48 0 Os O Ending the grueling season in the fifth berth, the SLC football iay-vees came through with fairly good results. The tally sheet showed four wins and the same number of losses as the iuniors bested Kaimuki, Roosevelt, Farrington, and Mary- knoll and gave way to lolani, Kamehameha, McKinley, and Punahou. In order that the Crusaders might maintain the respect given them through years of colorful play, head coach Art Machado with the assistance of George Oda and Dr. Johnson Lau, taught the boys the principles of teamwork, clean sports- manship and skill. In this way the boys will be ready for the senior varsity the following season to carry on the tradition with powerful attempts to gain the crown. ww A w..-- L, ,afsln ' ' 1' -. , ,Ai mwirv v ,, -f new ,-: vi .4--n.,,,.f Q.. ,M -lv' f . -an LP Q. Louis Junior BaskeTball Team did well This year by placing Third To Tie wiTh Kamehameha. Their record was seven wins and Three losses. During The season The Junior Cagers held Their opponenfs To 363 poinTs while They piled up All poinfs. Leroy BarTels was The sparkplug of The Team with 85 poinTs. OThers who aided Barrels and played classy games were: George Mauliola, Donald DemenT, Edward Mahiko, and Donald Chai. With Coach Roy Martin and Brother Clarence Chew sup- plying the dos and don'ts, the Jayvee team is once again marring the baseball diamond. Packed with ability, hope, and spirit, the team is well on its way to a successful year. The art of hard slugging, speedy galloping, accurate catching, and sly stealing is proving advantageous to the Junior Babes, as they do battle with their many opponents. To develop these necessary qualities of good baseball-men, these home- run seekers, mostly Freshmen and Sophomores, are giving up precious time for hard practice and sound advice from their coaches. Though little applauded, these boys are doing their best to bring fame and glory to St. Louis and they rightly deserve the praise for work well done. .n l mg' KN-N Q.
