H. 1951 We are approaching the end of our gourr-ey, O -ard Our day of commencement, which seemed so remote not long ago becomes of primary importqnce today. Our eager footsteps racing along education's dusty road now slacken to a reluctant saunter as we approach the hour pf final preparation, The period of training is over. Tomorrow we will be knighted Even now we see the splendor of the ceremonies and the brilliance of the spectacle But this night we give to You, O Lord. Allow us to keep watch with You just as the gallant Crusader did on the eve of his knight- hood ten centuries ago. Remain with us as we kneel before You KEEPING VIGIL, 1 'i f Q J .,.X.. The Spirit of Saint Louis would once again echo through her halls of learning. We were mighty Seniors then, and the reality of Com- mencement was soon to be ours. But with the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States was summoned by the United Nations Organization to help subdue the aggressive foes. The young men of Hawaii, as in the past, played an integral part in this international crisis, Thus, it was with heavy hearts that we bade these staunch Crusaders a fond Aloha. Enlisting with the Marine Reserves prior to the war, they were ordered to undertake a program of intensive com- bat training in preparation for the active participa- tion in actual combat of the war. Their great sacrifice, instrumental in securing our democratic way of life, will forever merit our gratitude and admiration. May our Blessed Lord, through the intercession of His Holy Mother, pro- tect and guide these true Christian warriors that they may safely return to the shores of Hawaii Nei. The '5l edition of the musical maestros is composed principally of musically talented students, Several Brothers and alumni members have also been incorporated, presenting a well-rounded orchestra. These musicians sacrificed a large portion of their time and expended a considerable amount of energy in an effort to uphold the honors that were bestowed on them. In the tradition of former brilliant ensembles, they rendered a number of scintillating gems of classical selections, such as the March of the War Priest, Minuet in G, and Largo. CLASS OF '5l . i WP , 'rfb' eg KW Although the honor and glory of a championship was denied them, the '50 Crusaders displayed a never-say-die spirit. Highly overrated to repeat the performance of their undefeated champion predecessors, the Gallant Knights from Kalaepohaku failed in this respect, but their display of undy- ing courage captured the admiration of all. The team was constantly hampered by injuries, and the coaching staff was faced with seemingly unending problems. Led by head coach Allan Nagata, and his two capable as- sistants, Leon Sterling and Jyun Hirota, the team overcame these obstacles to further add to the laurels of St. Louis. Sparked by the vicious line thrusts of Val Freitas, and the spectacular off-tackle plays of diminutive Albert Forsythe, coupled together with the feared pass combination of Herbert Okamura to Walter Cabral, the Crusaders landed near the top of the heap, being second best only to a great lolani team. Coached by the able Francis Funai and assisted by Richard Kashiwaeda, this year's squad could well turn the trick. Vet- erans like Bob Tsushima, Herb Okamura and Ray Tam supported by a fine crop of under- classmen talents will make it tough tor the other teams. The big obstacles appear to be the Red Raiders ot lolani with a veteran team and the Governors ot Farrington, studded with mem- bers ot last year's champion American Legion squad. Nevertheless, the Crusaders should be well among the leaders at the end ot the season.
