Praying, working, playing, the Brother's lite outside of the classroom is rich and full. Besides the period when he assembles with the community for prayer and meals the Brother generally has a special assignment to perform, Some are concerned with maintenance, some attend club meetings of which they are moderators, and others have to be down on the field to supervise in- tramural sports. But not all the day is centered on work. There is recreation time, time to read newspapers, play cards, or go up to the radio shack and tinker around. The day, however, would not be complete without correcting papers and preparing for the next day's class, i 1 gi Q, I 1 wg? i th -95 .. gr, Father Uht and Brother Morrissey discussing day's Brother Priestley and Brother Morrissey preparing next problems, day's lessons. HB6 Faithfuln to your duty and to the principles of your Catholic Education. You will find them unerring guides not only to your temporal success, but to your eternal salvation, your final reward, as well. May our Heavenly Father award your efforts with the crown of success and may our Blessed Mother watch over you and lead you to Her Divine Son. Jmlwfffiqf N 43 wrhf 2 5 ' , f.' gk f,! gisi ?mmga ,,QU. Under the direction of Brother Charles Cummingsmith, Librarian, the staff, totaling twelve members, endeavers by the performance of varied functions to put the library at the disposal of the student body, Checking returned and borrowed books, shelv- ing, keeping the magazine shelf in order and up-to-date are a few of the many duties performed daily by the staff. For an effic?ent and up-to-date library, the student body owes much to Brother Charles Cummingsmith. Attractive posters and novel displays testify to Brother Charles' patience and diligence in making the library a more delightful abode. Orchids and many thanks to you, Brother Charles, in appre- ciation for your constant and disinterested service. Although it is one of the youngest organizations in school, the radio enthusiasts are energetically building up this mechanical art for the future in their operation of amateur radio station Kl-l6RX. With Brother Eugene Zapp as advisor, the twenty-five members hold their practices and meetings on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Theoretical instructions, practical experiences and code practices are some of the activities undertaken by the boys. The first project of the year was the moving and the enlargening of the radio room. Wc rk, service, and opera- tion tables along with three sets of code machines were moved into one of the barracks up on the Third Road. Along with Brothers Charles Miller and Richard Carter, Brother Eugene has made con- tacts all over the United States, as well as in Europe and the Pacific Ocean Area. Making fun, efficiency, and knowledge their motto in everything they undertook, the club had a very active year through the mutual assistance of its members, officers, and ad- visor, Brother Henry Bentzinger. The directing mind of all this was Valen- tine Chun, the club's president, who in turn was assisted by the other officers, Kenneth Chang, vice-president, Steven Araki, record- ing secretary, Samuel Kagesa, corresponding secretary, John Kuapahi, treasurer, and Hen- ry Fong, sergeant-at-arms. The members of this club enhanced their scope of scientific knowledge through meet- ings, movies, excursions, and experiments. Movies, sometimes known as audio-visual ed- ucation took a very prominent part in the club activities as shown by the every-other- Tuesday treks to the Projection Room, Because the members in this club are inter- ested mainly in the subjects in the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics, the unusual name Biochephy which embraces the first three letters of the mentioned sciences was incorporated last year. They will be carefully trimmed for their seasonal games under the watchful eyes ot Richard Yoshimura. Although last sea- son they didn't do so well, this year there are chances tor a better team. Although the players are young, they are willing to spend their time in practice under the tutorfhip of their coach to learn both the fundamentals of baseball and tlfe true conduct of an athlete. They all realize that their baseball knowledge gained in the junior team might aive them berths on the varsity squad next year so that they may play to place another pennant into our trophy collection. 3.71 JUNIOR BASEBALL SCHEDULE l. Vwmmmaz With a great deal of cooperation from the members of the student body, the Intramural Department at Saint Louis College, headed by Brother Raymond Dotzler, has made, within the past years, an enormous amount of improvements and progress. The numerous competitions in football, basketball, base- ball, and track are being held on the athletic field, accord- ing to their corresponding seasons. Thrills and excitements are plentiful, and the games are marked with hard play and excellent sportsmanship. The intramural competitions lasts from the opening whistle of the kick-off to the last dip of the swimming meet. This means ten full months of active ities lined up for the boys. This big iob has been taken over by Brothers Clarence Chew and Joseph Napier. They replaced Brother Dotzler on his departure for the West Coast. And what's all this work done for? All the extra hours of work put in by these good Brothers is for the chief purpose of developing the characters of the students, a part of CHRlSTlAN EDUCATION. These friendly tussles will often show just what a guy is made of.
