Team play and diligent practice are the main points stressed by the coach. The boys are eager to absorb as much of the base- ball savvy in one year. The outstanding rookies seem to be concen- trated on the first string battery ot southpaw C. Ching and backstop V. Brown. What the outcome of the 1948 season will be, is ot little consequence. The team will possess knowledge of the game and acuteness ot mind which can be gained only by consistent play- ing. They hustle like mad! Composed mainly of sophomores and fresh- men the junior squad ran up a record of four wins and two losses against more experienced and older teams to finish third in the junior interscholastic league. Art Machado and Tom Takamori handled the boys skillfully and got the most out of the young- sters who will graduate to the varsity next sea- son. The junior varsity defeated Maryknoll won from Punahou rolled over Roosevelt and squealced by lolani. It tied the powerful Mc- Kinley squad and the Kairnuki bulldogs. lt lost to the champion Kams and Farrington. The team had power and used the T shift to the single wing effectively against T teams. While Val Freitas and Alvin Cabrinha were powerhouses Charley Saiki directed the at- tack. For deception the junior squad used speed- sters loe Perry Wally Hong and Estiamba who went rocketing past the opposition.
