As the 1975-76 school year draws to its conclusion, both the faculty, as well as the students are filled with mixed emotions. We are filled with joy to have successfully completed a long, but fruitful year. But at the same time we are filled with remorse on account of the departure of a true friend and dedicated teacher, Father Joseph Franzak, who dedicated his life for us at Prep South, is being called to service in Chicago. Fr. Franzak was a math teacher, the head of the store, a bowler, and chief cheerleader. We will miss him greatly and wish him the best of luck in the future. Parting is hard, but it is good to know that, though we might all go our separate ways, we will be united on Judgement Day. God Bless You ,gfff A 7 'ell sgilii4LV V J N 5 159' We, the senior class of 1976, are proud to dedicate this 1976 Blackhawk to the eternal memory of David Martin Stasa, Ph.D. At a memorial Mass here at Prep South, the first reading opened with these words: The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They, seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be de ad, and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace fWis. 3:1-3j. Everyone who was fortunate enough to come into contact with Mr. Stasa will certainly remember him as a just man. I-lis dedication to Prep South and to the Priesthood was a true reflexion of his deep faith and love of God. His dedication to this school and to the students here was seen in a variety of ways: As faculty moderator of Scholar Quizg as music director, not only for the liturgy, but also for musicals and plays, as our teacherg as a vir- tuous man of God. Later in the memorial Mass Father Deddens, speaking on behalf of His Eminence, Cardinal Carberry, said that if for just one second we could see Mr. Stasa in Heaven he would tell us to carry on the work of the Church, especially in the area of priestly formation. In thanksgiving for his example of the Christian way of life and for his dedication to the priesthood, the school, and the student body, we, the class of 1976, do hereby dedicate this 1976 Blackhawk to the eternal memory of David Martin Stasa, Ph.D. s-Ns...,.,,,....... -9' A ff' f is v-, A f 4 58132 f Eff' 'N-2 ,r R . ,gf Q ,, , ,L U .l, V KI .,, , A . . kvwxl .V 1',QuA:g,'-3 -rn- L .f 45A'0'7'-, X5 AQ.: fi 'Xt TN- V 1 'SR 4 if 4.5, . -4 4 i Y , A ff A ,Q Q 1 , Jw. -1ww:x,,f M 'ffffklr .,w.Q.,.mQ.,..f::E?v,.,. , 1 Q 5 Z 1 v 4 4 I I f v V 2 N 5 I i 1 1 5 7.5. V f K. ' 'gif 5 gm FACULTY XTX. John Joseph Cardinal Carberry Archbishop Of St. Louis V. Rector, VERY REVEREND JOHN GAGNEPAIN, c.M. me Father Wilson completed his thirteenth year as a member of the faculty of Prep South, his fourth as vice-rector. Father's presence is felt in many, varied ways. From English courses to Head Librar- ian, from Faculty Moderator of the Bowling League to the moderator of the Yearbook, Father has given himself faithfully to the students at Prep South. But most importantly, the staff of the 1976 Blackhawk Yearbook wishes to thank Fr. Wilson for his photo- graphic talents, without which this book could not have been published. The completion of the 1976 school year marked the conclusion of Father Gagnepain's fourteenth year as a faculty member, as well as his sixth ' year as rector of Prep South. Whether in the classroom, at ball games, or while on the Altar of God, Fr. Gagnepain has been an example of a key virtue which is most important here at Prep South: dedication. In the classroom, he submits himself to the same grueling schedule which the students must and in this way is able to commun- icate as a fellow learner. At sporting events, Fr. Gagnepain is the epitome of a dedicated sportsfan being a strong believer in sportsmanship. But most importantly, Fr. Gagnepain is dedicated as a Christian, a Catholic, a priest of God. I-Ie leads a happy life in God, dedicated to those en- trusted to him, and for this the Class of Seventy- Six says Thank you. -Rector, REVEREND J. EDWARD WILSON, C .M. sF REV- GEORGE EIRICH, c.M. Phone 314 - 776-2121 Commercial - Industrial Ewles, Beales, Babies and f'There ughta Be a Law Ours is a peculiar society. We have laws protecting wildlyfe and dogs, but not defenseless human beings. Consider: DON'T STEAL AN EAGLE EGG If you do, it can costyou 35,000 Or a year in the clink. Or both. Eagles are protected by federal law against harm or harassment by the citizenry. The penalty for so much as stealing an egg from a nest has been stipulated by Congress. DON'T GAS A BEAGLE Senator Humphrey abhorred the idea of using dogs in any tests of chemical, biological or radioactive warfare materials. His amendment banning use of appropriat- ed funds for such purpose was overwhelmingly ap- proved in the Senate and accepted by the House of Representatives. BUT BABIES YOU CAN KILL According to our U.S. Supreme Court, the word per- son as used in the Fourteenth Amendment does not include the unborn. Last year in these United States, more than 1,000,000 unborn babies were terminat- ed through Abortion on Demand. Terminated means. killed. Killed without penalty. Unless someone got a parking ticket in front of an abortion mill. WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY DO YOU WANT? People get exactly the kind of government they de- serve. If you don't mind a society in which unborn humans can be killed in whim, just keep sitting there. But don't complain if some court decides old folks are sorta troublesome, too. Or cripples. Or redheads. Or southpaws. After all, the principle is the same. Of course, you're safe. Or are you? THERE REALLY OUGHTA BE A LAW! What this country needs right now is a constitutional amendment. One that starts a return to respect for the rights of life on which our nation was founded. One that makes it illegal to kill unborn babies - or hu- mans at any other stage of life - as well as eagles and beagles. It's a choice of that or a continuing trend toward a dehumanized society. YOU'RE INVITED TO JOIN THE FIGHT If you feel as we do, join us in working for that constitutional amendment. You can help us get there faster by: speaking out against abortion, keeping in- formed - subscribe to our newsletter 185.00 per yearjg writing your legislatorg becoming a pro-life speaker -join our speakers bureau. We still believe PEOPLE should be protected at ANY stage of life. If those are YOUR sentiments, too, we'd like to hear from you.
