Pelican State - 1974 Each year five St. Louis students are chosen to participate in Pelican State. The purpose of the program is to give students from all over the state experience in govern- ment. The government at Pelican State is paral- leled to that of Louisiana. The participants are divided into the Nationalist and Federal- 'ist parties. Anyone can run for office. Pelican State has its own constitution and they have the power to make any laws. The trials are presided over by the judge and District At- torney. Conventions are held in the same manner as that of the Democratic and Re- publican conventions. After experiencing Pelican State, Tom- my Gennuso summed up the group's experi- ence: I was surprised at the complexity of these conventions and just how they are to a free American Society. I had a great time at the LSU campus and from the experience I have made friends from all over the state. fizgiiiiga Blake' Mary Stevens ' Sandra QL-RJ Tommy Gennuso, Tommy Latiolais 152
