Mighty Saints Made Stale Finals During the regular season this football team experi- enced just about every emotion possible. We had big wins, big losses, close games, and even a tie. The sea- son record itself is not very impressive: 5-5, but we lost to some very good football teams when we were in a weakened condition with injuries. The 5-5 record does not indicate how good our football team was. Our 4-2 record in district, however, was good enough to tie for second place and to give us a chance at the playoffs. The coin toss was very important part of our season, if we hadn't won it our season would have been over. When the playoffs started, we finally had most of the team healthy and ready to go. It was like a whole new season starting and we decided to take them one at a time. For four weeks straight we beat four of the better teams in the state: Kinder, Menard, Vidalia and Jack- son. I don't know how many times I've said this, but This group of boys were the best group of boys I've ever been associated with. As far as determination, will- ing to work extra, desire to win, and just team atti- tude, I think this team could play the super bowl champs and probably win. In our fifth week in the playoffs we met someone bigger and stronger than a professional team. 4 ! s Tom Couste, Head Coach Notre Dame ended our hopes of being state champions. They had a great football team, too, and they beat us. So we had to settle for Class AA State Runner-ups . . . which ain't bad for a scrappy bunch of little guys. We ended our 15 game season with a 9-6 record and weire very proud of each player and of every game we played this year. Win or lose, we played hard every game and gave it everything we had.
