NFL The NFL helped to promote speech on a national level through all of its members, this past year. At the annual tournament in Houston, Thomas Hunter placed first in boys extemporaneous speak ing. Pal: Yoder placed fifth out of twenty-eight in Student Congress, and Nanette Noland placed in six out of seven rounds in oratory semi-finals. Also, Angie Sigur and Tom Hunter placed lst in Senior Debate, out of 45 schools in the state. 41

The St. Louis Debate Club had a successful year under the leadership of their new coach, Mrs. Debbie Theriot. The club held two tourna- ments - one in November for high school students and one in Nlay for Jr. high school students. During the year they attended many tourna- ments and always brought back home breathtaking results. The French Club created and pro- moted interest in the French Ian- guage and furthered knowledge of French civilizations. The club urged its members to realize cultural values of French speaking nations. The French Club held many activ- ities this year some of which were French masses and a French dance an out-of-town excursion, a banquet, and entertained at the nursing home for Christmas. SL also had its first French Day this year. 42 I
