As if to establish precedent for action and achieve- ment that would goad future student councils to attempt to even approach their record, the founding Student Councils activities and accomplishments set impressive standards of excellence. Standards of excellence were recognized 1 both the television and the press in featuring such projects as the POW ' s letter-writing project, the remodeling of the Boy ' s Village recreation room, St. Louis participation in National Student Council Week, and a financially suc- cessful Homecoming Week. Standards of excellence promoted action, action that was recognized h Su- preme Court Justice Black during consultation in Wash- ington, D. C, on the possibilities of a school court ac- tion recognized 1 the City ' s other student councils in their requests to involve themselves in the issues of hair, blue jeans, and the Senior Mardi Gras privilege. Other activities which paved the wa of excellence for future student councils were the completion of the alumni file, the revision of the Student Council struc- ture to allow for more student government, the liquidat- ing of all previous debts, and the donation of the flag pole to St. Louis High School in honor of the Senior Class of 1971.
