Harper. headmaster ol the St. l.ouis Coun- try Day School. was graduated in i939 from Princeton University. where he received Honors in Modern l.an- guages and varsity letters in haschall. loothall. and swim- ming. Mr. Harper prepared lor Princeton at Blair Acad- emy. from which he was graduated as class valedictorian in l935. After serving one year as Assistant Director ol Athletics at Princeton. Mr. Harper accepted a position at the Mount Hermon School as master of French and Spanish. Having enlisted in the Navy in june oi 1941. he beeamc a fighter pilot and took part in the Okinawa campaign and in raids on the Iapanese mainland. For his services to his country. Mr. Harper was awarded four air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Alter being discharged lrom the Navy. Mr. Harper studied Interna- tional Relations and Latin American affairs lor two years ,tt the Graduate School of Princeton. In the spring of l947 Mr. Harper was appointed Headmaster of the American School of Quito. an independent day school. Here he re- mained for lour years until he became Headmaster ol the American School of Lima. from which he came in 1953 to assume the headmastership of Country Day.
