ea'z'catz'0n It is with extreme pride and pleasure that we dedicate the 1962 Prescripto to Dr. james R. Thayer, an individual who has touched deeply the lives of all who have known him. Dr. Thayer has the distinction of being one of only a few Deans of a College of Pharmacy who is not a pharmacy graduate, but he continually displays his sincere interest in our profession through his dedication to the discipline and training of the pharmacists of tomorrow. He is a member of those organizations which con- sistently strive to elevate the professional standards of Pharmacy, the American Pharmaceutical Association, and Missouri Pharmaceutical Association.. A chemist by profession, Dean Thayer was born in Medina, Ohio. He corn- pleted his undergraduate work at Ohio State University, then pursued graduate studies at Wisconsin University, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1928. Later in 1928 he was employed by Parke, Davis and Company as a research chemist and in 1929 he served on the faculty of the California College of Pharmacy. Since 1930, Dr. Thayer has been with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and in 1958 he was appointed as Dean of the college. He is regarded as an outstanding professor in the classroom, but his warm personality radiates far beyond his teach- ing ability. He is a true friend of every student, and willingly contributes his time to many student organzations in the college. He is a member of Rho Chi Honor Society, and served as Grand Regent of Kappa Psi Fraternity from 1960 to 1962. It would be impossible to adequately describe the numerous accomplishments of this great man , but we who know and love him, realize the full extent of his achievements. The Student Body of the College of Pharmacy very humbly dedicates the 1962 Prescripto to you, Dr. James R. Thayer, and we wish you to know that we are proud and grateful to share a relationship with you as you serve us as teacher, Dean, and everlasting friend. 2
