6 . ashington Trips During the past year St. Leonard's sponsored two trips to Washington. The first trip was in April and the second in May. A total of 80 students made the trip, accompanied by Mr. Frank C. Wissel and Brother Pius, O.S.F. The groups departed from the school at 1:00 P.M. on a Friday in a Modern De Luxe Coach. The route took them through the beautifully colorful states of New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. Upon arrival in Washington they stayed at the beautiful Woodner Hotel. That evening after supper they toured the Library of Congress where they viewed the world's largest collection of books and manuscripts. On Saturday they visited the Capitol, the White House, the Supreme Court Building, the Washington and Lincoln Monu- ments and many more places of historical interest. ln the afternoon they visited Mt. Vernon, Home of George Washing- ton, Arlington National Cometery for the changing of the honor guard and the statue of Iwo Jima. On Sunday they heard Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Con- ception and then toured the grounds of Catholic University. On the way home they visited the Franciscan Monastery. After lunch at the Park Plaza Hotel in Baltimore they made their iourney home arriving at the school at 8:30 P.M. Over 1,000 pictures were taken by our students of the various places of historic importance. Students leave after a tour of the White House. The Capitol of the U. S. A. Camera bugs take a picture of the statue of St. Francis and the Turtle Doves at the Franciscan Monastery.
