WY ,fi it Well, the time has come again for me to say good-bye to another year and to thank all those who have helped me. So I say goodbye to three wonderful years and I say Thank you to everyone who supported mei So many people have been wonderful to me this year, I just can't seem to thank them enough. Oh l've still had my share of problems, and there were many times when l was certain 1982 was going to be the year without the yearbook. However, deadline after deadline things slowly began to go into the right places. Cl only wished that this was ajob that got easier every year? For some reason I knew I didn't have any worries when my assistant editor Laurie Chmielewski, told me everything was going to work OUT Cond she stuck around tili the last page was worked out? -- THANKS l.AURlE!I Skip CDiane Macdonald? my other assistant even managed to cheer me up and put in many hours of hard work. lf you know Skip, that was a tough task with her busy schedule. Jean Mclntosh, my photographer, it's amazing the girl is still talking to me. She did a great job for het first year, Jean, thanks for everything. The list of thanks does not end there. l want to thank all those people who worked on various sections of the book. Carmen D'Ascendis, for his art work contributions, Debbie Young Chin - for her help in the organization section. Becky Sommers -- for her all around help and her many laughs. Delton Farauaharson -- for his dedication to the sports section. Kevin Bethel -- for his unending support and Kelly Keefe -- for her witty write-ups, KP, - for your talents, Paul Bermel and Edward Mansoor -- for all of the sports copy. Gino Mantagno, Martha, Georgette, and yes, even you TC. -- I thank for your photographic contributions. And all those who stopped by and contributed help. Last, l thank my friends for their never ending patience at deadline time. Cthats you Ellen and Nancyb. Thanks to Joy Shepherd and Mr. Powers. Brother Bernard, your photos added class to the book. To all those I say Tl-IANKSH! A special thanks I give to Dr. Ackerman and Kathy Britton for their friendship and belief in me as Editor, Student Affairs - thanks for making your office mine. Jerry Gladstein -- my Josten's representative -- where would I be without you? . l wish the best success to the staff next year. l only hope that the memories that are contained in my books will be remembered forever. Enjoy the book, think of me often, as l will of you. ' Best Always Janet Hansen Editor, 1982 't I sr I:-.Ll T ff . LWB? The word Pan- heHenic means all Greek and our four sororitles are all Greek! Our four sororities are Alpha Sigma, Delta Phi Delta, Phi Tau Omega, and Psi Theta Epsi- lon. We wear the Greek Letters Alpha, Del- ta, Phi, Psi. Panhellenic consists of the President and Vice President of each sorority, 8 voting members and the Ponhellenic officers. Pan- hellenics purposes are many, lt overloods the activities of each sorority, and we do many activities as o whole. Ponhellenic tries to get the student body os well os Greeks involved on Greel-r life, to strive for the betterment of each soroity, helping each soroiry sister develop o meaningful under- standing of sisterhood. Panhellenic for many is o very enriching experience and it creates on atmosphere of friendship and leadership on the Saint Leo Campus, i - i 1 ll l i, ' X7 J W.,,.. That was the score for the St. Leo Monarchs at the end of the 1981 soccer season. Hard work coupled with patience enabled the team to improve last years record of 3 to Q. They won four of their five home matches, tying with FIT Mel- bourne, the team that is ranked number five in all Division ll colleges in the South. Stephen Martel, a freshman, led the team scoring nine goals in the sea- son. N , K K Second Annual Humanities Festival A Return To Ancient Greece More profoundly thon onyone before them, the oncient Greeks ottempted to understond life by exploring the relotionship between philosophy ond ort. Soin Leo College's October Greek Festivol vividly re-creoted this oncient milieu. Co-sponsored by the Division of Humonities ond the GFWS Dode City XVomon's Club on portiolly funded by the Florido Endowment for the Humonities, the festivol ollowed the college community ond hundreds of visitors to enter the world of Greek culture. Greek scholors from vorious universities discussed individuol will, the birth of Greek dromo, ond how the ploywright, Aeschylus, oltered trodition, these discussions set the stoge for o Greek Foir thot included outhentic donce, music, food, costumes, ond orts ond crofts. At the lighting of the Olympic flome, porticiponts put oside souvloki ond gropes to listen to the wise words of Ploto, Epictetus, ond the rhopsodists, then joined in tourch ond choriot roces. While some enjoyed the pogeont of the goddesses, others gothered to try their skill ot the discus or shot put. Then, their worry beods in one hond, they returned to the Agoro for Sponokopitto ond boklohvo. Highlighting the festivol, wos the presentotion of Aeschylus' clossic trilogy, The Oresrelo, which wos presented under the stors. 'A ' 5 . :fa , ,N -Z3 fi' Grease ls The Word' There was an aura of excitement at the auditions for Grease a rock and roll musical based upon the nostalgia of the 1050's as over 150 students sang, danced, and acted on for hours on end trying to get one of the twenty-three roles. When the difficult job of casting was finally completed the task of getting students to learn the dances, sing the songs and have appropriate characterizations began. The COST worked six hours a night seven days a week for four weels, Mrs. Jacalyn Ewansky Bryan was the choreographer and she spent much time researching the 1950 dance steps and even more time drilling it into the actors, which would enable them to do their movements at precisely the same time. Mr. John Higgins worked at the piano throughout the rehearsal period and rehearsed and conducted the orchestra. Dr. Larry Sledge was the vocal Director and Ms. Kathy Neumeyer, a student designed the scenery. The Director was Dr David A. Golden, The show opened in a charged atmosphere and suddenly was sold out every night, lt was necessary to extend the run of the show for three extra performances, due to the popular demand. And each of those shows sold out as well. ln fact, Grease enjoyed the longest run and had more attendance than any production in the history of the college. It also played to two dinner theaters Grease was the most successful musical the college has done to date. 186 ACTIVITIES GREASE Directed - Dcvid A Golden Scene Design - Kothy Neumeyer Lightening Design - Dennis K Henry Choregrophy - Jocolyn Bryon Musicol Director - John Higgins Voice Direction - Lorry Sledge THE CAST Miss Lynch ....
