.911 Wemoriam EMILY EATON HEPBURN UGUST l4, l956, marked the passing of one of St. Lawrence's most well known alumnae, Emily Eaton Hepburn. While an undergraduate, Mrs. Hepburn was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social fraternity, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. ln addition she was awarded the honorary degrees of Doctor of Humane Letters from Tufts College and Doctor of Humanities from Rollins College. After graduation she was active in the University Alumni Organization, and later served as a trustee of St. Lawrence for fifty years. St, Lawrence will long remember Mrs. Hepburn's many contributions to this campus. Not only was she instrumental in the building of both Dean-Eaton Hall and Hepburn Hall, but she was also an instigator in the beginning of a National Pan-Hellenic Organization. Mrs. Hepburn's participation in social and communal affairs are indeed worthy of the highest acclaim. St. Lawrence is very proud that she was a member of the University.

0I el,l!0l l Memories are inclined to fade away with the years, names are forgotten, faces blend into ano- nymity, and places are barely recalled. For this reason we, the Class of 1957, wish to present the Gridiron as a means of keeping alive some of the memories of your college days. In presenting the book, we have attempted to picture Larry, the traditional symbol of St. Law- rence University, in the various phases of college life. We hope as you leaf through the pages some years from now that Larry will bring to mind some of your happy experiences while at St. Lawrence.
