An especially talented Viking squad ac- complished what no other team in St. Laurence history had done, captured the District Championship. Riding their third consecutive Catholic League Champion- ship, the Vikings entered the IHSA district tournament with a regular season record of I7 and l and an equally impressive fourth ranking in the State. The team dominated the tournament which was held here at St. Laurence. It succeeded in sending ten Vikes on to the Sectional Championship at Richards. Two Vikes, Keith Healy and Tim Cocco, emerged victorious and journeyed down to the State Champion- ship in Champain where Keith placed second among all wrestlers in state. St. Laurence had one of it's best years :ver. The Varsity and the Frosh Soph ared well and still came out with a strong team for next year. The Frosh Soph team coach by Coach Mr. Tarjan weathered a couple of early letbacks to emerge with a respectable I6- 3 record. The team really worked well as i unit and that is crucial to having success this difficult game. The Varsity trully had one of it's finest s ever. With a veteran squad, Coach Fabrizio led the team to a 27-12-l record. The record does not speak for itself, the team ended up among the top in the state. On the field the Vikes were led by All- State Center fielder Dan Grunhard, and All-Catholic Bob Zeeb, Don Bestwina, and Bob Stakenas.
