Hikingna 4 2 2 I zpannl One of the foreign languages offered here at St. Laurence is Spanish. The Spanish course included translating, writing, reading, and learning the cultural aspects of the Spanish language. Not only were students expected to learn the Spanish language but things such as Spanish agriculture, government, and history were briefly touched upon. In Spanish I, II, III, and IV the student was taught speaking, reading, translating, and writing, and were highly stressed in later years. C s ,Q X Under the directorship of Mrs. Meryl Handrich, French I-IV students were given the opportunity to partake of the newly created French club. Students from the junior and senior classes elected Dan Divicenzo as president. During the duration of the club, members were able to visit The Art of Chicago as well as conduct meetings once a month. The French program consisted of freshman thru senior classes. Freshman French includ- ed elementary introduction into the language with emphasis on grammar and writing skills. Sophomores continued on with grammar usage in the past tense as well as stronger readings in French about French culture. The juniors took on a more structured schedule with emphasis on speaking and French gram- mar conclusion in the imperfect, conditional and passe simple tenses. Q Lflatin Kerman ani! Kuaaian Among the many languages offered at St. Laurence are those that may be uncommon to most high schools, Latin, German and Russian. Taught by presently being offered on all four levels. High interest is shown at this language. It deals not only with the German language and basic grammar, but with the complex Ger- man culture as well. Russian is another language that the multi lingual McNicholas speaks. It is quite an honor for us to be able to offer the complex language here at St. Laurence. Latin is taught singularly by Br. Mahoney. The ancient tongue that used to be the official language of most of the civilized world is preserved by Br. Mahoney and the Laurence Latin scholars.
