Perhaps the most important course offered at St. Laurence, or for that matter anywhere else, is History. Five different courses of History are of- fered to the student at St. Laurence, World History is the Freshman course of study. It is a brief outline of World history from the pre- historic times until now. Modern European History is an elective taught by Mr. Ondrla for Sophomores. Junior year the compulsory American History is given. Many students are lucky enough, well perhaps the word is not lucky, to have, perhaps the strangest and most unusual course in the school. Mr. Rezek's enlighten- ing course in United States History. C s ,Q X Under the directorship of Mrs. Meryl Handrich, French I-IV students were given the opportunity to partake of the newly created French club. Students from the junior and senior classes elected Dan Divicenzo as president. During the duration of the club, members were able to visit The Art of Chicago as well as conduct meetings once a month. The French program consisted of freshman thru senior classes. Freshman French includ- ed elementary introduction into the language with emphasis on grammar and writing skills. Sophomores continued on with grammar usage in the past tense as well as stronger readings in French about French culture. The juniors took on a more structured schedule with emphasis on speaking and French gram- mar conclusion in the imperfect, conditional and passe simple tenses.
