All the world honors an ardent, upright leader . . . and so do we . . . candidly and wholeheartedly. Times may change, but leadership at St. Ladislaus does not. Top drawing of our esteem is Father Anthony Majewski. There are four ways of telling his leadership story: The magnitude of his priestly ad- ministration is impressive. His self-sacrificing devotion as pas- tor for thirty-three years has endeared him as an alter Christus in the hearts and minds, particularly of the youth in our parish. While sharing the delights of our tender years, his understanding per- meates us with a serene nobility, like that experienced when viewing the majesty of mountains from below. There is persuasion, too, in his mas- tery as a builder. Every obstacle sur- mounted brought its silent compensa- tion. First, was an elementary school, shortly followed by a two year com- mercial high. The establishment of a senior high school strengthened the sinewy existence of his parish. Affiliated with the University of Michigan, St. Ladislaus High, with an enrollment ex- ceeding five hundred, has taken its rank with the top five in the Archdio- cese of Detroit. That our hearts be further enshrined in faith and prayer, the construction of a modem Roman- esque church was completed in the Marian Year. Physical training, having been woven into the Scarlet and Gray fabric, the Greyhounds clinched cham- pionship titles in the three major sports. With an immediate conversion of the former church building to gym and auditorium purposes in the past year, an extensive recreation program has been put into effect this year. The 1955 Torch presents a glimpse of the dreams and plans realized in our regard. In token of their fulfillment as potent factors in our environment and soul life, we seniors of the nine- teenth graduating class, vote an acco- lade of thanks to Father Majewski, our benevolent pastor and masterful guide.
