This Is OUR Life . . . Lads and Lasses . . . buoyant, spirited, wholesome . . . ever changing, ever growing . . . endowed with similar but not with the same physical traits. What makes us what we are — our appearance, our char- acter. our conduct? The interplay of heredity and environment. Coupled with mind and will, and fortified by grace, they spark each personality. We Lads and Lassies enter the play of life with the glow of youthful challenge. We accept our biological inheritance, transmitted through genes, however uncontrollable. For the de- velopment of our potentialities, however, we rely on environ- mental factors. Church, school, home, recreation, and friends reflect the attitudes, ambitions, skills, and habits of our teenage life. Affecting the character of our thinking and forming the basis of our conduct, environment aids us in our growth into adulthood. Life courses along in a ceaseless, whirring change with joys and sorrows, triumphs and achievements. In the light of the 1955 TORCH, we bring into full view St. Ladislaus High School. Having lived its life in an atmosphere teeming with principles of sound social living and in the companionship of youth pulsating with the vitality of Christ, lightly and confidently, we stop forth unto life's highway — readied to live as worthwhile Christians and worthy citizens in an ever changing world ...
