n This, of the the Golden Century . . Age AT THE HIGH NOON of the atomic age, His Holiness Pope Pius XII has proclaimed 1950, the Holy Year of Jubilee. It is not without reoson that the Sovereign Pontiff colls us to added effort toward sanctification and spiritual improvement. In this age of atomic energy with a more powerful hydrogen bomb already in its concep- tion, there is only one path of safety left to mankind, that of perfect preparedness for eternity, o life based on the preservation of sancti- fying grace. THE HOLY FATHER, like so many of his predecessors, is again warning men against innovations and inventions which will ulti- mately lead to their own detriment and annihilation. Heedless man ignored the papol warnings against communism, divorce, euthana- sia and the like, and today he is reaping their bitter fruit. MAY THE COUNSEL of the Vicar of Christ be followed by us, the children of His flock. Let us by prayer and penance obtain pardon and forgiveness for ourselves, and let us help, ot least in some small measure, to appease God's just anger. Let us beg God's mercy for those who flaunt their rebellious wills before the God Who gave them the gifts with which they offend Him. May this golden year of the atomic century turn its remaining precious moments into years of holiness and salvation, so that through Christ, the Head of His Mystical Body, the Church, we may oil rejoice in Heaven.

To You, the Master Torch Bearer . . . WE, THE CLASS OF 1950, dedicate this annual as a token of our sincere appreciation. It is a humble but treasured synopsis of all the joy and pleasure we have experienced during the four years spent at St. Ladislaus High School. We hope this little volume will express our gratitude and serve as a pledge of loyalty to our Alma Mater. YOU ARE THE NOBLE TORCH-BEARER, who daily at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass lifts on high Christ, the Light of the world, so that we may purify the torch of our lives in the fire of Euchar- istic love. You have provided us with the highest type of moral and intellectual education because you have realized only too keenly, that in the world of today, men have become nuclear giants. Men have mastered the secrets of science and knowledge, but have failed to learn that all these are a gift of God and that unless men turn back to God and His moral law, they will become moral adolescents and ethical infants. By guiding us spiritually, entrusting our train- ing to religious teachers, and providing all the sacramental aids to Christian living, you have forestalled the possibility of spiritual shipwreck. You have provided us with a torch that will light our paths to the eternal goal, Heaven.
