Second Row: Dave Kelly, Bob Doman, Bill Hooven, Charles Marcinkiewicz, Jim Crossin, Charles Grimes, Coach Kevin Quinn. CROSS CUUNTRY Despite an 8-4 record--the best of Kevin Quinn's three years as coach-this season proved unusual for the Hawk harriers: an injury forced Captain Charlie Marcinkiewicz to the sidelines before the season began. However, Ed Myers, Bob Doman, Mike Diorka, and Jim Crossin turned in consistently fine performances. Strangely enough, Chuck Grimes, a back-up man, had the best run in a highly disappointing M.A.C. showing. Our Hawks finished in sixth place behind several teams that it had beaten in prior competition. The highlight of the year occurred against American University, when Ed Myers broke the school record with a 27:30 run.

BASEBALL The 1969 baseball season looks promising for the Hawks: despite the loss of six players by graduation, novice coach Martin Pollock inherits a team that, in the preceding year, had the best record in St. Joseph's history. To till the vacancies caused by graduation, several touted members of last year's freshman team have been moved to the varsity. The 1968 team MVPs, juniors Carl Vogt-Lowell and Jim Clouser, are expected to assume most of the pitching and hitting responsibilities: Vogt-Lowell appeared in fourteen games, compiling a 6-3 record, while Clouser led the NCAA University Division with a .464 batting average. Senior Jerry Benetatos, an excellent all-purpose player, will serve as captain of this year's squad. The primary difficulties faced by the team are the grueling nineteen-game road schedule and the perennial problem of wearing Gehrig-vintage uniforms.
