7a 7756014 ' . . . A Friend To All REV. VACHEL I. BROWN, SJ. The consecration of oneself to God and to his work involves no little personal sacrifice, so that only a few, and they only through His grace, can meet the exacting challenge. He is the exceptional man who walks always and everywhere with Christ and whose every act is ex- pressive of this singular dedication. At this time we express our deep regret at the loss of such a man, as.it is our con- viction that Father Miles O'Malia was indeed such a man. :, ?u . . He is one whom innocent children grow to love, to venerate, and to reverence . . . He is one whose is to. console the afflicted and soften the pains of the body and soulg who is the intermediary between the affluent and the indigentp to whose door come alike the rich and the poor to receive them without blushing. He belongs to no social class because he belongs equally to all-to the lower by his poverty-to the upper by his culture and knowledge and, by the elevated sentiments which a religion, itself all charity, inspires and imposes. y A Great Teacher . . . REV. MILES I. O'MALIA, S.l.

Archbishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania In this final opus, our last collective endeavor toward something creative, we pay humble respect and honor to a world famous priest, distinguished speaker and writer, a pro- ficient military delegate, a renowned educator and an efficient administrator-The Most Rev- erend Iohn F. O'Hara, Archbishop of Phila- delphia. Through his warm personal disposition, his keen acumen for religious organization, and his deep, but always tender, understanding of humanity, Archbishop O'Hara has endeared himself to the hearts of his flock ever since his installation as Archbishop. No one can seriously doubt that this sol- dier of God ranks with the great men of our time. After his ordination to the priesthood in the Congregation of the Holy Cross, Archbishop O'Hara distinguished himself at the University of Notre Dame when he was appointed pro- fessor of religion and later elected president of this same University. While at Notre Dame, he published numerous religious bulletins that were eagerly carried by even foreign news- papers. An expert in Latin American affairs, he was chosen delegate to the Eighth Inter- American Congress by President Roosevelt and while in South America he made an extensive study of its school systems. As a Military Delegate in the Second World War he visited many members of the armed forces, baptizing and confirming scores of soldiers and sailors. Previous to his position in Philadelphia, Arch- bishop O'Hara commanded the high office of Bishop of Buffalo, where his prowess as teacher and educator continues to be recognized by the many educational degrees conferred upon him here. , To this humble warrior of Christ, then, for all that he has done for a troubled, distressed and ignorant world, we inscribe the Great- onian. Pew men are born with rare talents, rarely are men born with such great talents. 4 1
