St. Joseph's Basketball team had its best season in seven years in victorious games and total points. The team started with a brilliant streak, winning six of the first eight games, but slowed down at the end of the season by winning only three of the last ten games. This was a year of team effort and coopera- tion. Sparked by Paul Steeb, the team's captain, Anthony Ike Macri and Robert Steeb, there were many contributions of basketball skill, such as the play in the last few minutes of the game against Hammonton when Ronnie Rodio sunk the final goal, thus beating our rivals for the third time in the school's history. The jayvees, as usual showed a magnificent season with a record of fourteen victories for nineteen games. High score for the j.V.'s was Renard Ferrari, with the best support from William Pinto, Lewis Presti, Ed Coia, Jim Gehringer, and Tom Matro, Yes, the Hornets have had a good year but only through the tireless efforts of Coach Lou Sulmonetti. The parting Seniors, especially the six from the squad, hope that the Saints will continue their fine spirit of sportsmanship. l The charges of Coach Lou Sulmonetti listen eagerly for important instruc- tions in the St. joseph-Egg Harbor clash, Paul Steeb and Ike Macri, two of our high scoring stars follow him very carefully. However, the tables started to turn as they lost their last S in a row, namely, 2 to Hammonton, 2 to Holy Spirit and 1 to Sacred Heart. Though the Saints lose 4 men, Coach Lou Sulmonetti feels that his team with this past experience will make a better team next year. Nevertheless there were a few bright spots on the team. The Saints had new uniforms to talk about and words of praise to the senior star, Paul Steeb, who ended with a .375 average. No better words can best describe our Sunday night dances sponsored by the senior class. Many a cool-cat doing a crazy rock'n roll could be seen faithfully attending these social events. We are very grateful to all the stu- dents who have frequented these dances. True. these were evenings when everyone's company made the gym a place of buzzing busy bees, spreading sunshine and joy to all about. Thanks to the fine attendance these dances helped greatly to defray expenses for the 1956 Lily. Our ties of friendship were strengthened each time thus enabling us to know one another and understand each other. These are important factors which will help us build a good community. These lovely hours will be relived many times as we recall our happy school days and varied activities. Our frequent Sunday night dances opened opportun- ities for friendly chats and interesting conversation while the hours sped by all too soon. fx joseph Benedetto and Kathryn Kcrtz are apparently enjoying a splendid evening whirling lightly to lively recordings which set everyone on their feet ln their formal wear, these charming girls and hand- sfrne men spend an enjoyable evening of gaiety.
