Games of ChanceLetting her fingers do the walk- ing. Laura Matthias, a mime, gives Anne Napoli clues to riddle. Focus on Fall Play What do a projector, a settee, and a bear have in common? All three were integral parts of the 1987 Fall Play: Fo- cus On Family . The three one act plays dealt with the family. Mrs. Syburg said I chose three one acts because all three were unrelated. One was a drama, one was a comedy, and one was a fantasy. Candid, written by Michael Scanlan, was an incredibly powerful dramedy about a young man ' s, T.J., internal and external struggles with his family. Chris Murphy, who plays T.J. said, This is the type of show that theatre is all about. It entertains as well as illustrates the often- times overlooked feelings of a child whose parents fight on the brink of divorce. The second play was a comedy cal- led T je Trusting Place. The play, by Booth Tarkington, told the story of a fam- ily and their loveiives. Rachelle Anthes, who played Jessie, said I thought the three views of the family were insightful as well as entertaining. 1 liked ours the best. The third play written by Aurand Har- ris called r ie Arkansas Bear told the sto- ry of a girl dealing with her grandfather ' s death. Of the most challenging role of her high school acting career, Laura Matthias said Playing a mime at first seemed like a far off goal, but the part grew on me. Th ese plays combined with Brother Chris ' sets gave the audience an evening of superb theatre.
