No Place Like Home It was a cold, rainy Friday night. The football team sludged through the pud- dles with Gary Wirt while the 1987 Homecoming Court shivered waiting on the empty side of Marian field for the last seconds to tick by until half-time, when the they would walk arm and arm though the mud. It was the climatic conclusion to a week of tough competition and unified class participation. This year ' s Spirit week proved to be the most decorative yet. The excitement began on Monday, when the whole school came together to dress up. Then on Teus- day, the juniors constructed a jungle. Somehow, on Wednesday sophomore hall was divinely transformed into both Heaven and Hell. Then the Freshmen Beauty and the Beast: junior Jenny nichols and her pet gorilla get into the spirit of the jungle. Using a figure from one of the new line of low key commercials, the seniors developed Hollywood and fantasy as their Spirit Week theme. The 1987 Homecoming Court on Marian Field; E. Schmitz, K. Anderson. D, Aranowski, K. Basney, A. Neuklis. S. Rotello. K. Keller. B. Kennelly, G, Zbier- anski, A, Hartman. Not pictured: J. Bowles and R. Ketchum. gave SJHS a comical display of cartoon characters. Friday arrived and the sen- ior ' s enthusiasm twinkled under the bright lights of Hollywood. There were many high expectations for the big game. Half-time finally came and our Colum- bia blue band gave the crowd a musical performance complete with helium bal- loons and flaming batons. After the last notes of La Bamba faded into the night, a new voice came over the inter- come. And the winner is all I can say is Hurray for Hollywood!! said Fa- ther Fisher while assuming one of his new roles as school pastor, by announcing the 1987 homecoming court and the class of 1988, the seniors, as the winners of the annual class spirit competition. The candidates for queen were: Kris Anderson, Kathy Basney, Kathy Keller, Aimee Neuklis, Shannon Rotello and Gail Zbricranski. The young gentleman nomi- nated for king were; Justin Bowles, Roy Ketchem, Brion Kennelly, Andy Hart- man, David Aranowski, and Eric Schmitz. Gail Zbrieranski and Brion Kennelly were crowned the 1987 Homecoming Queen and King. The Indians also came out on top by defeating the Gary Wirt Troopers 41 to 0. Senior, Kris Anderson summed it all up, Football homecoming was a very exciting week. It was one of the times during the year when the whole school, especially the seniors, really came togeth- er and showed some unity. 12 Homecoming
