The Tradition Continues As the music begins and the priest enters, a simple basketball gym is somehow transformed into a place of worship. Voices are hushed as the St. Joe student body joins together for the opening school Mass. Although this year ' s service had some of the traditional aspects, it was unique in one particu- lar way — Saint Joseph ' s High School wel- comed its new chaplain, Fr. Terry Fisher. The students as well as the faculty received him very positively. Jay Gruber stated that, Fr. Fisher seemed very personable and he did a really great job filling Fr. Rybicki ' s shoes. By bringing all four classes together the opening Mass created a sense of community. Kelly Basney responded to the service by say- ing, Being a freshman, the all school Mass gave me an opportunity to see the entire school together. Along with the Mass itself came the annual initiation of the eucharistic ministers. As in pre- vious years, a large number of students partici- pated. Fr. Fisher said, I was surprised, but pleased, at the number of volunteers we received. In addition, the choir added a great deal to the celebration. Along with the fifty members of choir, Liz Schirmer and Mr.Hunckler provided added entertainment with a guitar and a piano. Tracy Pycik said, The choir did a really good job livening up the Mass. As always, the spirit created by the all school Mass is a positive way to begin the new year. Inspirational words are hard to come by, but former St. Joe student Fr Terry Fisher ' s first sermon was a resound- ing success. Opening Mass
