Jfs What ' s Jnside Zkat Counts In the fall of 1952, ground-breaking ceremonies began the construction of a new high school in South Bend. The school combined the student bodies of St. Joseph ' s Academy, South Bend Catholic High School, and Central Catholic High School. The intervening years have not been kind to the aw- fully medium I950 ' s architecture. However, the goals of the students which centered around the principles and programs of the school have with- stood the years far better than the physii ' icture. The 1953-54 Hi-Way outlin ' ntiments: This is but the ' ° he history of our school I . . be written. It is the hope of the students that this same history will be lengthy and glorious and that its principles of Catholic educa- tion will long endure. Gates Grainger. Rev. Parris (Mike Garatoni) lectures Abigail (Lisa Heintzelman) on her behavior. Mrs. Hartzer divides the food going to the area ' s needy families. The student body used its talent in successfully organizing activities dur- ing the school year. These activities have been very successful. We ' re look- ing for new and different ways to have activities, and the students are re- sponding well, said Br. Robert Liver- nois. The opportunities for extracurricu- lar involvement at St. Joseph ' s were extensive and many students also took advantage of them. The student body is diversified in their extra-curricular activities. They have a unique ability to incorporate new endeavors into their schedules, in terms of cultural events, academic and social rlubs, and athletics.
